Re: 88-98 work trucks

My 97 is my DD and gets used a lot. I've had it since 03 and I can't tell you how many people I have moved. I moved myself in it to Omaha and hauled all the bricks, stones and 2x4's I have used on my new house I bought in April. I plan on building a new garage so it will get one hell of a work out this summer!

208,000 miles and counting.

Re: 88-98 work trucks

I didn`t mean to sound pizzy.I figured people needed to get razzed into showing some pictures. There ain`t no point of diminishing return with a GM truck and my truck is proof.I`ve worked mine since day one and it`s just as valuable as any`92 that got driven to an office job for the past 18 years.Who cares about truck value when it`s paid for itself and continued to make over a million dollars that has paid my bills since my 18 year old son was born?My truck is a rare classic and it`s like no one knows it.And,I`m not being pizzy now,but I`ll bet anyone my truck is the only one like it,in more ways than one.My highly optioned`72 was 20 years old and valuable when I ordered it and I was,as close as possible, duplicating it.Yeah,I`m proud of her.I want to see everyone else`s pride.I`m glad this thread has picked since my last post.

Ps:Heck,I still work my`72.Whatch talkin`bout?

Here's my '94 Caddy (Power Window/Locks/AC/Full Cloth interior) 305/4l60. I work it like it's a 3500!

This Van was full of Iron headed to the bone yard. Look how low the rear end of the van is on the trailer!

Few things make me happier than to see a Dodge on its way to the dump....as fodder FOR the dump, not a vehicle to transport "stuff" to the dump unless it is loaded as your load was. Nice.

Yep, 4 in leafs and 2 in shackles.

Its notched and it rides fine with a load in the back.

It might be dropped but its still a truck.

Re: 88-98 work trucks

what an AWSOME thread.this is more like it.wish i had pics of mine, but when its workin hard and dirty i tend not to take them
mine gets used around the house for my mulch, gravel, flowers in the spring.my husband even had a load of horse crap in there for my garden.didnt really like that idea being in my truck but boy did i have great peppers this year
in the fall it gets a workout haulin leaves to the town landfill and an occasional trip to the scrap yard from left over project parts.we just recently put a hitch on so now it can hual home another project
ive included some pic of my past trucks "working".1st is of my '89 truck working to influence my son at 3 yrs old to enjoy trucks.
2nd is my '97 working ,bringing home a present for my sons 9th birthday.
my son is now 18 and restored a 67 c10 for his driver at 16 and now has a '93 chevy sportside 4x4
so I guess my trucks "worked"

Well, you just told my life story right there. The earliest truck I remember was a late 70's blue chevy stepside I think it was. Second was an 80's green chev, maybe the opposite order, memories of the time are few and far between. But growing up, the two main trucks I remember were Chev's from this era. One was a white extended cab short box that had a razorback and window covers that I distinctly remember. Second was a large red crew cab chev that was a huge dually. I remember this one distinctly, as to me with the bug deflector on the hood, the truck always looked like it's name should be "Charles". Regardless, it was a beautiful truck, as were all these chev's my family has gone through.

As a result of all these Chev's I've now got an 89 reg cab stepside. Come to think of it, just now I began to realize how loyal the family's been to chev up until recently...VW = gross, they got no damn heater block.

My trucks are usually too busy working to be photographed working, next time I have a Ford on the trailer I'll have to snap a few pics.

(QUOTE, ChevLoRay: Finally, there are the youth of today. So, the sentimental side gets nudged and the affordability of these trucks becomes an issue. END QUOTE)

I've been reading stuff on this site for a long while, and never really needed to post anything. but these few sentences sum up why i even got my truck. i am in grade 11 now, but my dad had a 1994 ex. cab short box Cheyenne 1500... he kept it in immaculate condition. it did its fair share of work, including carrying almost a ton of sand put right in the box of it on a 2 hour drive across town. he bought it when i was 5, i can barely remember it. he said that we would do the truck up together and i could have it as soon as i could drive. i fell in love with that truck, i was keepin it in tip top shape almost more than he was. he stuck to his word, but one day 2 years ago he came home in a 2007 mustang GT, and guess where some of the money for the mustang came from. and the worst part is, he said my younger brother could have the mustang when he could drive. so i am pretty much left with nothing, and i was totally rotted about it. but soon came the time when i was about to get my permit, so i started shoppin around. i soon came across a 1988 GMC SLE single cab short box stepside with a fresh gm 350 crate engine, and a rebuilt and beefed up 700R4. it had over 600 000 km's on it, but only like 12 000 or so on the new drivetrain. the people who were sellin it inherited it from their uncle or something, and didnt know what it was worth. they wanted 1000 bucks for it, thats all, and when i told them it was goin to be my first ride they dropped the price to 500. they thought it was worthless because it was an older truck. Needless to say i got it, and i thanked them like you wouldnt believe. this summer im gettin a job with a construction company, and the truck will definetly be doin some work. I wont let it get run down or in shabby shape, as it is my pride and joy. the sentimental memories of my dads truck are what led me to buy a GM truck as opposed to a little sedan or something, and im glad about that.

Re: 88-98 work trucks

hey man, thanks for the positive reply. this is the only good pic i have now, and the truck is gettin repainted this spring/summer as the paint-job is my main concern now. currently it is burgundy and it has some minor rust and oxidization on the paint. it is gettin redone with red paint and black colored parts like the door handles and 1500 logos and stuff.

i re-did the grill too, as the chrome was peeling and it looked kinda shabby...

Re: 88-98 work trucks

Looks good, I like what you did with the grill, especially painting the GMC Black. I sort of looks like the old Chevy "sport" grills like that.
Did I read the milage right? 600,000 KM's on the chassis? Man thats a lot of miles, but for $500 you really have a hard time going wrong.

I like what you did with the grill too, I think I may do the same to mine, it has the same problems you described. Looks like a good buy for $500, congrats!!

Re: 88-98 work trucks

Thanks guys, and yes, i did base the grill off of the sport truck or 454 SS type grill. I like the 88-93 grills better than the 94-98 ones, and i like the gmc one better than the chev. but, the 454 ss grills look amazing, so i mixed the two together and got a gmc ss grill lol
