fuel cell in truck bed/ flush mount gas cap

Hay everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the correct spot to post this question, if not maybe someone can redirect me. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of where to purchase either an aluminum or stainless steel fuel tank to mount in truck bed. I've also considered keeping my stock tank in the cab of my 67 and just installing a flush mount fuel cap. Anyone got any cool ideas out there?

www.performanceonline.com sells an aluminum tank that mounts inbetween the rear frame rails. A little pricey but looks like a great product.

Thanks for that information. I'm not sure I want to go to the trouble of installing between the frame rails. Has anyone installed one in the bed of the truck and made it look good?

Best idea is to get the tank out of the cab. I would go with a tank betwen the rails also.

You can get a black polyurethan one out of jaz. The tank comes with a sump and sender unit. Jaz makes some pretty good stuff it is there 16gallon No foam tank they use in dragsters. I am doing a ground up project and this is the one i am going to but it looks to fit right between the frame rails. if you want something like this give me a call 1-888-481-7264. i work at cv products they have a web site cvproducts.com not a very good one yet but they are working on it. i can probably sell it to you for 170 bucks plus shipping.

Re: fuel cell in truck bed/ flush mount gas cap

I have a 67 long wheel base and a 71 short and I order a 20gallon fuel cell from summit racing for 250 for the 67'. It has the gm sending unit for your gauge and foam so you don't have the sloshing problem. Plus it fits nicely between the frame rails. However, on the 71' I decided to make my own from sheet metal to give a better fit and save cash ( that's only if you are a decent welder). I plan on using a stainless steel flush mount boat gas cap in the bed floor for a clean look. I'll see about getting some pictures, but between frame rails is by far the way to go, it only takes a hour or two extra but it pays in the end

howdy to a local tucsonian, im a welder by trade and built many custom fuel cells even a 32 gal tank mounted in the bed of my powerstroke even with me doing all the fabrication install and cool tricks i couldn't beat the conviance of an under-bed mounted tank, so i just went with a 72 blazer gas tank mounts to pre-existing holes already in your frame i bought mine not more than 3 weeks ago brand new with sending unit and mounting straps from cpp for 189$=20 gal tank i can snap some photos if you like- Let me know

I am facing the same gas tank replacement issue I am thinking about going with the 72 blazer tank but I have an ls1 motor... I think I would need to replace the in tank fuel pump???
I am wondering about how it would look?

get a normal fuel cell (aluminum) and put the pump in it. not sure if it will fit in the blazer/suburban tank

Re: fuel cell in truck bed/ flush mount gas cap

I have the tank under my bed. Mine is from a 72 blazer. Only thing I'm lacking is a proper filler neck. Working on finding a flush mount filler cap. Other than finding a good cap, I'd say do the swap. It's easy and worth it.

I'm new to trucks so I'm try to learn as much as possible. But what is the benefit to place the fuel tank in between you frame railing? Is it for weight distribution?
