wiper blade refills

Didn't see a recent thread on this....
I didn't find replacement blades locally, only blade+bow types so I bought some material off the river, and it went on great.
There are numerous offerings in rubber or silicone. the dimensions are shown below(6mmx10mm equivalent)
They come molded together at the skinny edge, which seems to throw people, but they just pull apart

I kept the steel ribs and clip from the previous blade and just cut the rubber to fit and slid it in(with the clip sandwiched back in)

As always, it stopped raining when I bought fresh wipers, so can't give a road test report yet.

Re: wiper blade refills

I am interested in this and have kept the old refills that need new rubber. Do you have any pictures or video for a how-to? And is the rubber you got from Amazon or eBay and can give a link?

Re: wiper blade refills

I bought these in 26" sections strictly because they were a next day item, but it'd be less wasteful to buy in 30" lengths or one long strip. Numerous sellers here with presumably the same product

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQBMF3V7

I'll undo one and snap a few pix, but it's pretty simple.
These do come attached at the skinny edge like an I-beam, which seems to trip up some folks, but they pull apart easily.

Re: wiper blade refills

I find it great that these use "natural native imported rubber flavor combined with teflon technology." Native and imported and flavored and teflon sprinkled in there somewhere, how can you go wrong?

Re: wiper blade refills

here's the sequence:
It looks like I cut this with a seeing eye dog and a butter knife, but you want it to reach the end of this skinny area on both ends:
I measured this at 14-9/16"

Re: wiper blade refills

My steel "rails" look like this, note the taper at the left edge of the larger rectangular gap:

Feeding from Right to Left here, I start the bottom groove onto the rails at that tapered spot:

Re: wiper blade refills

Slide it all the way to the other end, and the right end should be easy to pop through the rectangular notch:

Re: wiper blade refills

Slide the rubber back to the right so it looks something like the first picture above. Should have the smaller rectangular notch visible on both ends.

Next, stick the latch clip between wiper and steel rails and keep pushing until the barbs drop into that small notch:
(I have the barbs pointed down, but I can't think of a reason it wouldn't work the other way around)

To me, they taste more garden hose water on a hot day, and less like coolant hose, but my palate isn't what it once was ;-)

If this doesn't get the pro tip of the day award, I can't imagine what would.

I fear that might give folks the mistaken idea that I know what I'm doing ;-)

Re: wiper blade refills

After seeing this thread I went out to my shop and took this off the shelf. I bought four pairs years ago. Glad I stocked up on them.

Re: wiper blade refills

Yes, I have some extras as well. I used to throw the used ones away. I'm keeping the old ones now as I take them off the truck, and will be doing this rebuild in batches.
