Re: Th350 or 700r4 behind 420hp 383

sorry for the late reply, but running a ACC 28-3200 10" lockup converter and I like it so far, but only got a hundred miles or so on it.

Kevin,

That is called a 6L80E

4L80E = 4 gears
6L80E = 6 gears

I'm in the same boat, really like to have that 4th gear. I've got a core 700 and I'm sure I could get a tech to help me build it, but there's lots of other things to consider.

It's actually called a "6x", built by TCI within a 4L80E case, same difference. Wish I could afford one at any rate.

I'm familiar with the 6l80 but I think this is different. For one thing it can handle 850 hp.

i second that. i have the same setup 383 pushing 410 hp and 450 f/lbs on a turbo 350 done up and i still want another gear... doing 2200 2500 rpms on the highway isnt so great on gas haha get a 4L80E. its a tougher tranny and with a shiftkit and a higher converter it should be just as good as the turbo 350 plus you still have the 4th gear

Nope. Copperhead used a B&M Turbo 400 w/ 2500 stall torque converter, B&M shifter and linkage backed up with a Gear Vendors overdrive.

the quickest/fastest 5th gen camaro on the world (pig) is just over 900 rwhp I believe, LMR procharged 427 lsx block with a 6l. Quite a few monster '06+ vettes and gm trucks running near those power levels with the 6l80e

Re: Th350 or 700r4 behind 420hp 383

I think there's two versions of the 80E. I think one is the old body style truck version(88-98) and then there's the newer one (2001+).

Talking Re: Th350 or 700r4 behind 420hp 383

PoPo I have a Monster 700R4 behind my 383 which is kicking @ 438hp and 474 lbs of torque running a 2300 stall.

I have to admit, this is my second ... I did blow the converter in the first one, not sure I seat it right when it was installed. But I called them and I had a new one in 3 days, gotta love a warranty, ... and haven't had a problem one not to mention it barks the tires on my heavy weight in 2nd gear so ...

I bought the full conversion kit even thou I already had an older 700R w/o a lockup converter. But got cooler, converter, TV cable, Flywheel cover,and the 3 Year Warranty, shipped for free all for $1895.00
