Engine ID? Anybody Recognize This Critter? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

This just to appease my curiosity:

Somehow, or another, I lost the background info on this engine, but not the picture; here's what's bouncing around in my failing memory:
265 C.I., SBC, converted to OHC
Run in a "local" circle track car in the Midwest, maybe (?)
And I want to say that the owner routinely changed it from OHC to push rod, and back to OHC depending upon the track rules where he was racing.

Any info on who raced it and where and any other particulars would be greatly appreciated.

Don't have an answer, but during the Sixties, Weslake was one manufacturer of DOHC and OHC conversions. They were mainly Ford-oriented, but may have done such for GM, too.

Certainly is an interesting engine....and would not be cheap to buy, if you found it for sale.

I do know that engine and a whole lot of illegal drugs inspired the Northstar design. LOL

I seem to remember hearing/reading something about OHC conversions. just not sure who or when.

both welake and cosworth had a bunch of weird stuff availabe back then// alot made it to indy racin back in the day when they had one of a kind type racecars

I say e-mail HotRod Magazine, they will def be able to find out what it is plus they may put it in the mag so that a lot more people can see this piece of history.
