Thumbs down Transmission lines - HELP!

I was replacing the two lines from the transmission (th350) to the radiator and I bought these:

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/add-23-1500

It says that they come with 2x 5/16" inverted flare to -6AN male fittings and 2x 90 degree 1/4" male NPT to -6AN male fittings. The problem is that two of the fittings do not fit (the NPT ones). I should have bought the 23-1501 that comes with 4x of the 5/16" inverted flare adapters...

So without returning the hoses and getting the right set, does anyone know where I can get any adapters that are inverted flare to -6AN male? I looked online and didn't come up with much so didn't know if a different type/style would fit? Without these I am dead in the water without a vehicle and I couldnt find anything at my local part store.

Also, I'm assuming the 5/16" is referring to the hose size and not fitting size, correct? If so, are these the right ones?

Re: Transmission lines - HELP!

Any good local hydraulic hose shop will have what you need. I would take your hose down with you when you go. The 5/16" refers to the size of the tubing used in the inverted flare fitting. Just be aware they make reducer style fittings. ( These are common in brake line applications. I.E. 3/16" tubing in a fitting that is sized for 1/4" inverted flare.) Its been many years since I was in Raleigh but I think there was a place called Allied hose that we used at the plant. Good luck.

Re: Transmission lines - HELP!

post update: those 2 connectors were correct!

bad news: it didn't fix my leak. it seems to be coming from the weep hole in the bottom of the black plastic transmission cover. anyone have any ideas what that could be?

Sounds like a front pump seal.

Re: Transmission lines - HELP!

"Black plastic trans cover"...please post a pic so we can know exactly where you are seeing this leak...

Color of the oil leaking...red is auto trans oil...brown or black...engine oil.

If it is trans oil, it can be leaking from a couple of areas...
pump seal,
pump gasket and O ring, pump to case bolts (these should have a rubber center thin shim washer style gasket on each bolt,
convertor weld area small pin hole

All above require trans removal to correct

Could trans filler tube O ring or seal or modulator or pan gasket

If it is engine oil it could be rear main seal, sump pan gasket, oil pressure switch, manifold seals, or rocker cover gaskets.

A pic of the leak area will help us help you...

Re: Transmission lines - HELP!

This is the piece I am talking about. You can even see the weep hole in the pic:

http://thumbs3.ebaystatic.com/d/l225...HRFAtj7CVA.jpg

It is 100% transmission fluid. It is not coming from the pan gasket, which I just replaced while I was under there.

Re: Transmission lines - HELP!

It has to be on the tranny side then. Just like AussieinNC said, convertor seal, front pump housing seals, or pump bolt seals. No easy way to fix that, trans or engine have to be removed. I have never seen those covers in plastic I thought the were all steel.

FWIW, I owned many Chevelles and a Monte Carlo before I bought my truck. I didn't know the covers were metal. Mine are all plastic. I'm guessing it is a truck verses car difference. When I swapped the 3-speed manual out of the truck and replaced it with a th350, I used what I had - plastic. The truck doesn't care.

Re: Transmission lines - HELP!

Is this the same transmission that you had a speedometer issue as well... rebuilding it really fixed you up.

Re: Transmission lines - HELP!

You spent more for the two cooler lines than a th350 transmission overhaul kit costs. I know a guy who is a great trans builder in Holly Springs, NC. He does older car/truck restorations as well. Presently, he is installing a th350 in a 1957 chevy pickup replacing the three speed manual....he charged the dude 550 bucks for the entire swap which included the trans/TC/flexplate/cooler lines/fill tube/kickdown cable and vac. line. He added a charge of 100 bucks for the CPP motor mount cross member/trans cross member. oh, yea he tossed in the starter nose for the 168 tooth flexplate, reused the old starter. no headers were added.
Not to get to nosy, how much did you spend for your th350 rebuild ?
