My 78 K5 What Gives?

Guys I've had my 78 K5 listed for a couple months now. Listed it here on 67-72 back early last month.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/c...-blazer&cat=13

I don't think I'm out of line, but then again it is mine. I've been as open as I can be with it, maybe to open?

I have gotten one hit, and grateful for that. But what am I missing? When I bought this thing a couple years back I had a ton of folks asking me if they could buy it from me. I'm sure its mostly to do with time of year.... but any other places that you all think would be a good place to list?

I am really thinking about waiting now until spring, most companies fork out bonus money then, and people have tax returns burning a hole in their pocket.

Just looking for feedback.

Thanks!

I remember when you power toured it, I enjoyed reading that thread. $12,800 seems strong but I admit I'm not up to speed on what clean, mostly original round eye K5's are going for. I'd guess mostly it's because of the time of year.

Blazer prices are all over the place! If that was mine...I'd put some money back into the a/c and make it function! That done and raise the price to cover your cost! It is a turn off if it doesn't have it for those living in warm areas! Jus my 2 cents!

Yea...Damn old eyes.... I pot things on Craigslist in areas that these trucks are in demand...L.A. ,New York Florida ... It also draws attention to a broader crowd. I just sold a Hummer h1 to a guy in Oregon that seen it in the L.A. listing! So...what do u have to loose? I also offered shipping on the sale to entice buyers! People are looking for deals!

I did have it listed on Craigslist in Iowa, Michigan and I think NY. It was flagged as "spam" Probably to many listings at once I guess. Its currently listed here in Peoria on CL. I figure it will sell eventually. I kind of like having it around, its fun to drive around

Craigslist will kill your ads if you post more than two per hour across multiple markets. Did you swap the NP205 in or is that what came with the SM465?

$12,800 is too proud in my opinion. You have a very nice $9800-$10,250 blazer. Unfortunately the blazer market for the second generation hasn't taken off yet. The first generation blazers in so cal go for what you are asking and they are not even as nice as yours. You will have to be patient to find the right buyer.

I agree that the 73-80 vintage trucks have not quite hit yet. And I agree, I'm asking top dollar, but based on options, its not your typical K5.

Thank you for your input!

Re: My 78 K5 What Gives?

seems to me (as a recent buyer) that in a similar way to housing / schools where two identical houses within yards of each other can be priced $200k differently, dependent upon school district; the smog laws create an unnatural price bump from 75 and prior where you can pay $10k for a 75 basketcase but for a 76 beauty one is paying more.

This is true and I agree your K5 is absolutely gorgeous and I would have no problem paying your price considering its condition. With that said I give it ten more years until these early second gen blazers start to see good resale prices. As another poster noted for example that in CA a nice 75 and older version can literally fetch thousands more due to the CA emissions laws and no smog required on those model years and older. This is a significant factor in pricing those trucks here.

Another example is I had a 79 long bed 4x4 in great shape, working A/C, instrument cluster, original paint and interior in 9/10 condition. Manual trans with a big block on 3/4 ton running gear with a 2.5' lift on 33's BFG's. A very nice truck and well optioned. I couldn't sell that truck I ended up giving it to my father as a gift after he showed interest. I mean nobody wanted it. It passed smog fine, ran great (got 10+ MPG) and the A/C blew ice cold.

Then I have my current 86 K10 Shortbed, it needs paint, trim, a new windshield and door felts. The A/C needs a complete overhaul as well but otherwise mechanically sound. Passes smog by a wide margin and runs like a top. It sitas on 1/2 ton running gear and a 4' lift on 35' BFg's. It just looks terrible with surface rust poking through the midnight blue on the hood, roof and tailgate. Now here is the twist. I constantly get offers for way more then I paid for it. I got an offer for $8 grand last week as it sits. It is just weird the tastes and market of used older vehicles. one is claerly better shape for less money doesn't even get a look but then another less optioned and rougher looking gets offers way over market value.

I see the http://www.kijiji.ca/ is quite popular here.
it's free too.
