I feel like there aren't many solutions to this problem. I have a small shop, 18ft x 28ft. Its plenty long enough to work around the ends of anything I would want to roll in. The one thing I cant do is have two vehicles side by side. Its 18ft wide but I have storage on the sides that cant be moved. It would be too tight anyway.

Id like to raise the body of my panel high enough so I can roll the chassis in and out while Im working on it. Easy enough to do using some 4x4's as cross braces but Id have to set them on something pretty wide for stability and to clear the tires when I roll back and forth Ill need to go out fairly wide.

Im trying to think of something that would be sturdy yet narrower than say a barrel (a barrel would give me the height I need plus some). I dont want to use cinder blocks or that sort of thing, they seem kind of dangerous. I was thinking of the cribbing stands I see people build, but I feel they will need to be too high to be stable? No I cant suspend the whole thing from the ceiling =)

Any thoughts, or is this something that's just not feasible to do the way Im thinking?

get ya a low profile 2 post lift and run it up to the ceiling. I have had my lift tied up for over a year now

Ive thought about those but I'm trying to stay more on the "home remedy" side of things if I can, trying to hang on to my money these days =)

I've used saw horses before . Not the harbor freight crap but homemade with 2x6s

I’d go with something like my quick crude drawing. Basically a saw horse, swing set style. Make 2 of these, one for the front one for the back, just tall enough to go under the body and roll the chassis out. The legs are skinny and close to the body so not much room lost in your shop. The red triangulations can be done many different ways for better tire clearance than what my drawing depicts.

I think cribbing would be fine too but that seems like more work and material.

What about some 4x4 or 6x6 legs to go from floor to ceiling on all 4 corners that way you could X brace it above the roof of the panel to keep things close enough you are not tripping over them. Would be a real small foot print as well. just be sure to put a secondary 4x4 jack post under the ones going under the panel like a door header would have.

An old school swing set style frame made from lumber could save allot of space and allow you to hoist to the ceiling.

You can find these pallet racks cheap, it would take a couple guys to lift a cab up but you can adjust the shelf height.

In the past I have used saw horses on each side with a 4x4 across.

The pallet racks would be my choice now.

This is the way we do It now.
