Help tell me what motor I have?

Good Morning.

The only number I can find on the motor without taking the block forward is

K 0 5 0 1 0 GA

Can anybody read this?

I was told it is a 327 but who knows

'65 283 from what I found. 3spd manual car. If it's a running engine it's a good find. I'd like to find one

Just dont know what it is and the oil pan is not right because the front two holes are 1/4 inch out. Bolts are not even close to going in

Re: Help tell me what motor I have?

The casting number on the back of the block will give you the definitive answer.

Re: Help tell me what motor I have?

I would guess and say that is a partial vin from a 4x4 k code not sure if gm used k in other vin numbers

Block casting numbers are at back top of the block
To varify 327 check block casting code and also check crank casting code as well
Example 350 casting code block 3970010 with a 327 casting code crank

You can get either a cheap inspection camera or use cell phone to take pics of the block casting code and depending on casting number further inspection would be needed
Like my bros 327 with 3970010 block casting code its a 350 block pulled the pan and checked the crank casting code next came up 327 truck crank

Re: Help tell me what motor I have?

The harmonic balance or is different also. The 283 will have a thinner balancer than the 327. If you can get a picture of it that will probably help someone to let you know what you have.

Re: Help tell me what motor I have?

The ‘K’ is the assembly plant.
Look here for that.

https://nastyz28.com/chevy-engine-code-stampings.php

A 65 283 will have a road draft tube hole cast into the block. A 69 327 won’t. Road draft tube hole is beside the distributor.

I don't know 283, but If that were a 402, I'd think you mean the 1/4" bolts to the timing chain cover, which made little contact to begin with. The original bolts do not work with a one-piece gasket.

You are correct. My question was to confirm if it's a '65 283 or a '69 327. He mentioned bolt holes on the oil pan not lining up

This is great news! I was born in St Catharines.

65 283 is awesome.

I will try the cell phone picture trick when I can climb back up there.

Thank you guys
