Bed Mounting

Working through my punchlist this morning and ordering some parts.

Bed Mounting. Is there any reason why the bed has to be mounted on wood blocks?

I was thinking about mounting the bed on steel tubing welded to the chassis. I was going to drill and tap the tubing to make installation easier.

Any input?

Re: Bed Mounting

I don't see any reason it woulden't work. I would use the stock style rubber pads. The only problem i see is the bolts that hold the bed down are carrage bolts. if you tapped the tubing they wont work. you could use button socket{allen}cap screws or cut acess holes in the side of the tubing with a holesaw to get to nuts.
I would weld nuts inside the tubing rather than tap it IF I went that route.
If you cut holes for access I would find some rubber inspection plugs and cut he hole so the plugs fit.

I planned on using some stainless steel button head torx screws I have left over from a project. Welding nuts would be easy.

Definately going to use some rubber belting.

Thanks.

There just 2"(I think)wood blocks with rubber pads. Take a look at Mar-k Bed web site. They have a good site for research and are good to work with.
I'm sure you could make your own, pretty basic. In my opinion not sure why you'd want to weld anything here.
Truck looks great, really like it!!!

Re: Bed Mounting

Wood/rubber provide cushioning and some adjustment. If you drive it much the vibration and bumps will show up some where if you have is mounted solid, probably in stress cracks. If you don't drive it much then weld away.
