Starter or heat soak

I know this is an on going thing with some people. Sorry to bring it up again..
My blazer starter was good for a while in the fall till now. Because of this before, I had put a new AAW wire kit in and took VetteVet advice and changed the wiring set up a little(based on the mad electrical way). I had put a heat wrap around the solenoid and It was good to go with the heat soak problem. About a month ago I replaced my alt. with a 140 amp alt. from summit, since I will be adding some new toys to the electrical.. Now all of a sudden my starter is acting up again like its got heat soak and its the middle of the winter. It started last week when I turned the key and all the starter did was spin. then it clicked when I hit it again and then for the third time it kicked over. Every once in a while it does this. Then today I had stopped at DD to get a coffee and when I hoped back in the truck it just clicked like heat soak and it took me some time for it to cool and then it would start. So my question. Is my starter going or is it heat soak again? Thanks and Happy New year!

Thumbs up Re: Starter or heat soak

Did you swap starters back when it was giving you problems before?

If not I would go to O-Reillys and pick up the mini starter that I installed.

USL 32390 Starter limited lifetime warranty. I called O-riley to check and it's for a 91 Caddy and up. This is for a staggered bolt pattern starter. The number is correct for it though!
I never had another problem out of it.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Try this.

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/se...ado&vi=5000292

It says it's for a caddy but it fit my 71 305 TPI motor perfectly.

Re: Starter or heat soak

not to doubt you but, isn't the solenoid clocked in the wrong direction? At least the picture looks that way?

Re: Starter or heat soak

That's what I'm thinking too. I have no idea how old it is since I bought from a PO and hes got no clue. Just seeing if I'm thinking the same thing and if anyone has recommendations on a new starter..

Re: Starter or heat soak

Check your cable connections and do a voltage drop on them. You might want to consider doing the Ford solenoid mod to get more voltage to the starter and solenoid.

Here's more info on how the starters work.

Re: Starter or heat soak

Vet that is what I actually did last night. Thank you all for the reply.. It ended up being two loose screws that hold the cap on the back of the solenoid, LOL.. They almost went missing. I'm gonna buy a new starter anyways. I'm sure its due.. AC Delco are the original starter brands right?

It's a picture not the real thing so yes it is.
I ran this starter for about 3 years without not 1 problem of cranking it and it went on 1 HRPT of over 3000 miles in 7 days with many stops.
