8 lug Wheel Vintiques w/ hub caps question

I have some 73 - 87 hubcaps that don't fit

I have 16x8, 8 lug Wheel Vintiques and from the outsides of the nubs, from nub to nub, measures 11 3/4".

The caps I have measure 10 3/4", looking at them from the back, from outside edge to outside edge.

These are supposedly 3/4 ton 73 - 87 hubcaps - Are the 67 - 72 hub caps bigger in diameter than the 73 - 87 hubcaps?

I could have sworn I saw somebody on here running the 73 - 87 hubcaps on 8 lug Wheel Vintiques but I can't seem to find the pictures now. Was I just imagining things?

Re: 8 lug Wheel Vintiques w/ hub caps question

I'm running wheel vintiques as well and I'm pretty sure my caps are 73 and up, yellow Chevy bowties.
You may have 1/2 ton caps. 3/4 ton are closer to 12" in diameter.

Re: 8 lug Wheel Vintiques w/ hub caps question

All 8-lug nub-type wheel centers are standardized. All hubcaps made for them interchange, no matter what year or what manufacturer. You don't have 8-lug hubcaps.

You say you have 73-87s, so I assume you have 76-91 style... the next design never offered in painted (all are shiny aluminum). Those are real easy to tell. The 1/2t caps have 5 spokes and the 3/4t-1t caps have 6 spokes.

Re: 8 lug Wheel Vintiques w/ hub caps question

OK, revisit: I bought some 3/4 ton caps several weeks ago that have been sitting in a box in the garage. They fit the Wheel Vintiques wheels just fine.

Now that I finally bought some tires and got the new wheels on, I've discovered the caps don't clear the big ol' Dana 60 hubs on the rear axle

They fit perfectly on the front but they don't clear the rear hubs.

I REALLY dig the look of these caps on the black powder coated wheels - it's just what I was looking for. Here's a pic of the front wheel with a cap and the rear with that big ol' hub...

Can somebody tell me or post a pic of a hub cap that fits a 3/4 ton truck with Dana 60 rear axle?

you are going to have to run the earlier caps to clear the dana 60 hubs. or do like i do, swap out the 60 for a later 14 bolt and your caps will clear with no problem.

Damn

The older caps are kinda hard to find and expensive but not as expensive as swapping out axle...

Oh well - I'm gonna look around for the older caps. Thanks for the reply.

Re: 8 lug Wheel Vintiques w/ hub caps question

You could use a minimal wheel spacer. The Dana60 hub sticks out just a tad too far. These caps were used with 14-bolts exclusively. The HO52 hubs fit under the 76-91 caps.

There's an idea I did not think of(spacers). Thanks for the info.

Re: 8 lug Wheel Vintiques w/ hub caps question

Well, whatta ya know... I just discovered today that I had a positive balance sitting in my PayPal account. So THAT, of course, was perfect justification to splurge on some period correct 3/4 ton caps that should fit my truck. Should be getting them in a few days.

Thanks, Jerry - I will post pics - I have been toiling away at this for a few months, trying to get the right wheel/tire size and the right caps.

The guys on here have been a great help!

As soon as I get it all together I will post pics and specs.

Re: 8 lug Wheel Vintiques w/ hub caps question

I run a spacer to clear the Dana 60 hub on my H2 caps. I leave the spacer on (1/2" each side) when I run the stock caps (which clear) too, because why not? The track is narrower in the rear anyway so that just makes it closer to the front.

I did a quick look into the spacer idea and found three different sets available at Summit for the 8 on 6 1/2 bolt pattern. They were all 1/4" thick and aluminum. The thing that concerned me was it looked like they were not recommended for trucks and vans.

I'm not hauling full loads around on a regular basis but I do plan to use my truck to haul stuff and I play in band so I haul equipment around and want to be able to hit the highway at 70.

I'm interested to hear from anybody who has used or is using spacers - what kind of driving/hauling did you do and what kind of spacers were they?

I would keep the option open in case I wanted to change it up every now and then and put those later model caps on. Most of my driving is just around town with the occasional commute to work which is 20 mile round trip.
