Another 4x4 conversation thread, this time about donor truck.

I know all about the the swap, frame and suspension wise. Been doing a lot of reading so not going to beat an old horse to death again, but my question is about a donor truck. I'm hoping to make this swap as simple and straight forward as possible. I'm curious as to what would be the best donor pickup? Found an 81 4x4 for dirt cheap, but would a mid 70's work better as far as steering components go or would they all be about the same? Any advice would be much appreciated!

A mid 70's truck would have a Dana 44 and full float 14 bolt if it is a 3/4 ton and would make a better start IMO. I think in 78 or 79 they started switching over to corporate 10 bolts. They're OK, but not as strong as a D44.
