60-62 auto trans crossmember: short and longbed different??

I just read where someone posted that the auto trans crossmembers for 60-62 X-frame trucks, are different if the truck is a long bed or short bed.
Why? The orientation of the trans into the x-frame isn't any further back on a long wheelbase truck... it's in the same place under the cab...
So are there two different autontrans crossmembers or just one?

In a short wheelbase frame the 'X' in the middle is farther forward than in a long wheelbase frame.

Re: 60-62 auto trans crossmember: short and longbed different??

I inadvertently picked up a long wheel base cross member years ago for my short stepside frame. I had it sectioned about 3-4 inches to fit my frame correctly. I also had 1/4" angle fitted over the sliced area for additional strength.

Shortbed 60-62 auto crossmembers are shorter overall length than a longbed auto crossmember. Both are rare as hen's teeth and expensive when they can be located. Unless doing a 100% factory original restoration, one can be fabricated up pretty easy.
