4x4 69.

So my truck, is just sitting, while i work and save money, and find parts, but i found a 72 4x4 lwb frame for 200 bucks, so im thinkin about that, but was just wondering if squarebody springs bolt up, or how hard would it be to make them work. and this is goin to be my "build thread" when it is time to build it, im not goin for show, i want a driver/work truck. like on days i don't drive my s10, il drive this. im talkin a cheap paint job with tractor paint, as its durable, build a flatbed, or get a cheap long bed, and maybe a lil lift. remember guys im a 16 year old doin this, so money is TIGHT. truck has a 350/350/203. im hopin by maybe homecoming or prom next year, or atleast my senior year prom to have this thing going. Before i start the build i gotta thank Flashed (john) for all his help and support, and getting me to wanna build a lwb 4x4, never really liked a short bed anyway, no room for my firewood and atvs, and yknow. plus a lwb 4x4 from 67-72 looks SWEET in my opinion. But i wanna also build a 2wd short bed someday. yknow a lowered one that i can pull with my 4x4

The truck itself.

The interior.

with the new (to me) gauges from flashed,

ALSO THIS IS OLD WORK, WITH SCHOOL AND WORK IM JUST NOW SHOWING THIS, THIS HAPPENED AROUND OCTOBER-DECEMBER 2016.

I think il be goin for a 71-72 grill.

Re: 4x4 69.

Hi Deer Hunter, welcome to the forum.

I have a '69 K20 too, its a runner, work truck and love it. The 73 and up front springs are longer then the 67 to 72 front springs, so they will not work on our trucks.
Your best bet if you are low buck is to use an add-a-leaf in the front for a mild lift, or looking for some used 4 inch lift springs on line. A lot depends on how much lift you are trying to achieve. Also, lifting one of these trucks means new shocks, a possible raised steering arm, rear lift blocks and some type of modifications to the front brake lines, or new front brake lines, depending on how high you want to go.
Ask a lot of questions, there is tons of knowledge on this forum.

Good luck with your project and have fun with it!

Re: 4x4 69.

If you found a 72 frame for $200, you CAN swap your body and everything directly to that frame. Easy-Peasy.

The AXLES from a 73-87 will bolt to the springs on your frame, but the SPRINGS will not interchange.

The 4x4 FRAME parts will interchange for the most part from 69-72 without ANY issue. I did not include 67-68 in that because there are subtle differences in the frames on those. However, you body WILL bolt directly to those frames as well, but you may have some small issues of things lining up like parking brake cables, or linkages.

Good Luck!

My son is building a 1970 GMC K2500 and he is 17. We've been working on it for about 8 months now.

Front square body axles do bolt up. Only srw one ton 73-87 rear axles bolt up to the 67-72 4x4s and you'll have to move shock mounts on the axle. The non one ton axles will fit width wise but the perches are not in the right spot.
If you found a real 4x4 frame for 200 JUMP ON IT NOW! That's really cheap and they are getting pretty hard to find.

You'll get there just keep working and saving!

Re: 4x4 69.

ALRIGHT GUYS. it starts and runs, on a gas can strapped to the frame, next paycheck im getting the stuff for the fuel tank (sending unit, gas cap, fuel line) and a local truck dude (todd rusk, i recommend him, he is really easy to deal with, and helpful, also specialty retail is the same way, already bought some misc stuff from him too) has a grill, so now it wont looked methed up. and imma take the lift off (ITS SKETCHY AS HECK, WITH LIFT BLOCKS AND HOMEMADE SHACKLES!!!!!!!) and probably run 31s or so, and imma get it running and driving, and use it as it was intended, for a truck eventually gonna put rockers and fix the rust, but i just want a driver as of right now, not an immaculate show truck, All for this update!!!!!!!!!

Getting it running is a big step! Sounds like a solid plan from there.

No matter the angle it sparkled man. i think it was the truck saying it was happy Ive had people stop and ask me about it when im in the yard workin on her, they cant belive its my truck. i sanded and patched some problem areas and primed it with tractor paint, because i dont want scratches, this stuff is tough, took a key and could barely scratch it lol. the battery for it is currently in my escort until saturday afternoon. Thats the escort.
