Installing GMC Paul polly rear tank?

So i have kind of been out of the hobby for about 4 years. Before I had stopped working on my truck i had ordered a rear tank and i'm thinking it was from gmc paul. its the same tank as far as i can see. My problem is i cant seem to figure out how these straps are supposed to hold this tank in, what am i missing?

The one strap is different then the other and i have been searching the forum all night for an answer. Also i thought the tank would fit a little tighter between the frame rails?

Dude the sending unit retainers are classic.

I don't see anything to hold the tank in place on top to allow the straps to do their job.

Would they circle around and mount to either crossmember?

I bought a tank last summer from Brothers. It is metal and seems to fit against the rails front to back a lot better than yours. Mine also came with 2 straps the same as yours except both are identical. It also came with a small plastic bag with 2 4-5 inch long bolts bent up on one end. I'm not sure on assembly either, seems like it would come with some sort of instructions. I'm sure there has to be other tanks being installed, hopefully someone will chime in.
I was just on the brothers website and they have a video on how to install the rear tank. They have one on the poly tank and another on the metal tank. I think this will help you out some.

Did mine 20 years ago and it just fit in the stock location on my panel. IIRC the frame should stop it at the ledge on the tank and the straps hold it up.

So as im reading these reply's and checking out the info on the Brothers site like old51sedan suggested i realize they bent the straps whatever which way so they would fit in the box to ship

My tank still doesn't fit very well between the rails though so prob going to have to box it in some how.

Ill get to work and post what i come up with.

It crossed my mind. Regret not getting a top fill tank.

I added a little extra to the frame where the tank meets. You cannot tighten the straps too much or the tank will deform. No rust will form in a poly tank. Or the aluminum for that matter.

Im thinking i will do the same. do you have the same tank? If so did you bolt the straps to the frame rails on the one side and then use the hardware provided (hooks) on the other side of the straps?

My straps had no hardware as the poly tank was used.. I welded a small tab to the bolt head so it wouldn't spin in the frame and tightened slowly.

Straiten the straps out. They are only bent that way for shipping. Bend them around the bottom of the tank so they are even from left to right. The "J" hooks you should have received with the tank will hook the bottom of one side of the frame or the other. (doesn't matter witch) You will need to purchase additional bolts to use for the opposite side of the frame. You will have to drill holes for the bolts and "J" hooks. Hope this helps. WES

I bought a similar tank from a board member, he got it from Amazon. Mine has a type of ledge on each side that the straps hold the tank to the frame. I mocked it up with the hooks to see how long i should have them. I used an additional bolt and washer on the under side of the frame rail. I had to drill two holes and used two oval holes. I installed mine today, if I started over I would use longer bolts, 2inches, to make it easier for the nut to grab.

Ended up getting the tank in this weekend. I used some angle iron i had and used it to keep the tank tight between the frame rails because i didnt like how it could move around and potentially pop up past the rail if it moved over to one side.

Now that I see that picture, that is how I had to install mine as well, although mine was a steel version. Nice work
