Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab

Captainfab,

Thanks I thought they looked the same. But for some reason the listing on the lower ball joints shows the press in diameter of the lower ball joints are a little different between 66 and 71. i have a little more clean up to do anyway. ill bust out the dial calipers just to confirm. I do need to change the lower driver side one because it lost a battle with a curb at one point and is twisted up at the front bushing. i know is most likely cosmetic still seems to function as intended. i hope i can get the lower BJ's out without a press. Ill try using my 6" vise

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab

Added a proportioning valve from an 84 3/4 ton that had disc brakes. Should be just what I need. Running brake lines is not my specialty so after 12 feet of 1/4" line and 20 grey hairs later I managed to separate the front braking system from the rear. The original brake lines are in great shape so I just extended the line that feeds the rear brakes on the passenger frame rail to the proportioning valve on the drivers side.

Booster installed and brakes bled out once again. Stops pretty good considering
that I have only 14hg vaccuum.

New wheels

What better way to show off my disc brakes than with a pair of American Eagle 111's that I scored off of eBay. They are 15x8 with 3 3/4 inch back spacing and they fit perfectly.
This weekend I will be taking some photos of my axle conversion using Early Classic Industries 5 lug axle kit

Out with the old axles and bearings. I had to hire my son as a helper so he cleaned out the tube.

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab

Sorry guys my phone will only let me use one image at a time. Now the brakes are adjusted and drums installed. Hopefully three Jugs of lube is enough to fill it back up. The original gears are also in fine shape.

At this stage in the game it has only taken me two hours to get this far. I'll be driving it later on this afternoon

Heater Core restoration

So my heater core died in me about a week ago. The new one will be in today sometime. In the meantime I have cleaned and painted the heater box with satin black paint.

The damper door inside the box used to have some type of black rubber foam glued to it seal the hot air duct while slowing cool air to flow. Any suggestions on what I should use to replace the original foam

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab

Working out the kinks, the heater blows blistering hot now. The damper has a new gasket so it gets TO hot in full recirculating mode.

Thanks to Nick with Aspen Auto who sent me a heater core strap and the input and experience from others that made it such a smooth repair.
