Re: 1966 C10 Project Truck

New tires are mounted up, I think I have to put them on tonight

I'm stoked to get the crummy Nissan wheels off this thing and get some proper wheels on it. Center caps come on Thursday!

Re: 1966 C10 Project Truck

Tires and wheels are on! I found a bad lower ball joint on the driver's side so I'll be doing those, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake hoses and packing the bearings next. It looks so much better with a proper wheel on it

Also noticed this little guy on the driver's side. Didn't see it until last night, I think it's pretty cool!

More to come in the coming weeks

Re: 1966 C10 Project Truck

Small update but I'm waiting on parts to button up the brakes and front suspension, shold be here next week. I also ordered some new springs for it, I'll be giving it a 2-3 drop. It should look killer and still give a small rake so I can haul some stuff around. It's been a great little project so far!

Re: 1966 C10 Project Truck

Quick question, where is a good place to source a high hump tunnel for these trucks?

Re: 1966 C10 Project Truck

So, going to look at a new motor tomorrow. Mine has been a crap shoot since I bought it, it had no oil in it, and the amount it smokes has me thinking it needs rings. Found a low mile Targetmaster 292 I6 mated to what looks like a T5 transmission (ad just says 5 speed) so more than likely going to be bringing it home! It's going to be awesome!

Re: 1966 C10 Project Truck

Figured since I'll be doing ball joints, I may as well slap some new springs in it too! 2" front, 3" rear CPP springs. Those paired with my 235s should give it a great look!

Re: 1966 C10 Project Truck

Picked this up today, the block says 4.8L but the head doesn't look like a 292 head, is it a 250 head?

No more 3 on the tree, it was fun for a couple laps around the neighborhood but the T5 will make it more fun for me

Re: 1966 C10 Project Truck

It's a 292 block and head. Just had a brain fart and thought the head was taller than a 250 and the blocks were the same. Had it backwards.

Re: 1966 C10 Project Truck

I couldn't help myself, I had to get some shots of it outside on the new wheels the other day. It's so much better than before! The center caps will look awesome on it too!

That's cool! Truck looks Sweet! Yeah the 292 has a taller block than the rest. A 194-230-250 head will fit on a 292. Common to put a 194 head on a 292 as the combustion chamber is smaller which means more compression.

Thanks! It's been a fun learning experience so far! I'm excited to drop the new motor and trans in it along with the brake parts and new springs. It's going to be an awesome little driver when I'm done with it

Thanks! I didn't get anything done this weekend since I'm fixing my Jeep from breaking an axle shaft last weekend. I did get just about everything I need for the motor and tranny swap though

In my spare time (ha!) I am a board member of the local Wheelin With Warriors group and we had a meeting yesterday. One of the other members loves the pickup and was able to decode the bumper stickers for me. If I heard him right, it was a runway crew ordinance truck in Florida. I'm not sure how it found its way to the NW but it did

Re: 1966 C10 Project Truck

After the Jeep was finished in the garage, I pulled the 66 back in. I'm getting ready to pull the front clip this weekend and start prepping for the 292 and T-5. While I was spraying down all the bolts with Kroil tonight, I found that the passenger fender was welded to the rocker panel with a piece of a barrel. Who needs bolts????

Right? I'm just glad to have rescued the truck from those hands

While I'm doing the motor swap, I need to swap the ball joints out. I had ordered everything for the drum brakes and was going to do a disc conversion this summer with a donor truck. The 6 lug wheels have kinda grown on me and not having a ton of space to part a truck out, I looked at my conversion options. I'll have the CPP stock spindle disc brake kit at my door before too long

Re: 1966 C10 Project Truck

Started tearing it down last night, the front clip will be off this weekend!

I entered it in a car show in June, here's the list of things that will be done before then:

292
T-5
Hydraulic clutch
Wilwood brake master cylinder
Clean and paint the frame
Front disc brakes
2/3 lowering springs
Scrub the body down with CLR
Bed wood?

I'm hoping to reach my goal far before June but now I have a deadline to work towards
