Modern Technology in old trucks .

As I am not restoring my truck to original design , I am making some design changes.
I am building my own console and am looking into installing a very modern radio , back up camera unit. With all the bells and whistles .i am looking at buying one from a wrecked model truck GM / Ford or Chrysler 2016 and newer.

Has anyone on this site done this with there truck.

Not sure anyone has retrofitted a late model backup camera into 1 of our trucks, some have added back up cameras and tablets to do the same thing....sounds like a good project....Stereo wise, I added the radio with headliner and speakers....comes in black...painted mine to match....Flip down back up camera would be cool.

That headliner sure turned out nice! Lighted rear view mirror is cool also.

Sharp set up !

I looked into the head liner set up you have but after installing my bucket seats , I realized I had a ton of room for a nice wide , long console. My console will be 48” long x 16” . I’ll have enough room for a storage area , cup holders , a USB port and a cig type port , spot to organize CD’s . And where it meets the dash , at a vertical rise with a slight angle. There will be a 7 “ square . Modern radio , back up camera unit. With WiFi , and hands free cell communications . My 2018 GMC has the set up i’m Looking for. You can buy these for less than $200 new , so a salvage yard one should run $100 or less. With bucket seats , there so much wasted space between the seat all the way to the dash. So why not utilize it.
Oh , yea . Built in curtesy lighting on the sides , switches for power windows and future .

Post some photo's of your console when you get it going, I used a 60/40 split bench seats, so not as much room for the console. Still going to use it, need to make the base. Also need to rethink the back up camera idea....

I started thinking about mine. It’s going to look like the dang space capsule from the Apollo mission.

One thing for certain that I want to put in my truck is cameras, front and back, and a camera for my trailer that sends pics to the phone. People cutting me off when towing are my primary concern. Even with brakes on the trailer, I can crash into the numb skulls. When I drive the truck anywhere (not towing), the tailpipe junkies are right behind me, even on the freeway, in the slow lane (not towing). I'm talking so close that sometimes I don't see their headlights from the side mirrors, and if I had an inside rear view mirror, their headlights would be on either side of the window in the back door. I feel like if the mileage wouldn't get any worse, I'd use railroad rails for bumpers. Run into this, sucker!

You do know if you use a Chevy radio out of a late model it will have to be turned back on by the dealer are some one who knows how. Last I checked it was around $100.00.

I would think a aftermarket radio would work much better.

Are those overhead console headliners still available, I remember when they came out and liked them back then. I think they were a JC Whitney thing?.

I never gave them much thought before. Having tunes isn't a big thing for me. I think my last three trucks didn't have working radios.

Never seen one done up so nicely like the red one though. I really like the look.

Does look nice but with no a/c I find it just about impossible to listen to the radio in either of my trucks anyway . My radio in the 72 hooks up to my phone but that really useless too except in town .

I experienced this on my friends '97 Suburban. I found the directions online and he was able to reset them.
