Re: From monster truck to street-pride is expensive!

These photos are of progress made. The motor was rebuildable and besides freshening up, it needed all the guides and seats replaced for unleaded pump gas. It got a new cam ground special for a working farm truck. Rebuilt the carb and purchased new cast exhaust manifolds from Brock's Camaro. They arrived robbed of hardware and a donut for the exhaust tubing. I sent an eBay message and got no satisfaction. Later sent to their customer service link-nothing there. Brand new booster and master cylinder and all stainless brake lines including braided ones to the front calipers. All this is run thru a new proportioning valve not visible. I got the brake lines thru inlinetube.com and was really pleased with their technical support and products, including fuel lines. Also did the motor mounts with neoprene inserts-quite a job in itself to split the old mounts apart and replace with the new. All bolts, washer and nuts are replaced with Grade 8 and preparing to install a new 20 station wiring harness from LMC Truck. The hot lead bolted to the water pump (along with the fuel tank vent is for photo only) goes inside the frame rail back to the winch. I am using dual batteries due to the snowplow.

A tired warrior of the 1980s in a world of low profile tires, front wheel drive, and plastic bumpers, where people stay in their houses until snowplows move the offending substance from their paths, too helpless to travel without AAA and chains and salt, clearing their windows with longhandled brushes while gently stepping around in the snow trying to stay nice and dry.

If you look on the far right in the first photo, you can still see a bit of Bearfoot Blue remaining on the door. Didn't see it myself until I saw the picture!

very cool. I usually power wash my trucks underside once a week in the winter, thats the only way they stay somewhat rust free.
They use lots of salt here in NJ

Hopefully the powdercoat process will allow for less penetration of the salt. I don't think I'll be around to see if that happens!

Re: From monster truck to street-pride is expensive!

When we raced in mud we used to put a lawn sprinkler underneath. Of course that would depend on temperature. My trucks have always been to big to use the underwash at the automated car washes-shame.

Re: From monster truck to street-pride is expensive!

A quote from my Generation is from LBJ; "I come to you tonight with a heavy, heavy heart..."
Learned today that my long time friend and Mr. Bad crew chief Larry Ward was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma Cancer. Just today he is recovering from a serious surgery. We had strayed apart in the last few years and I so want him, still, to see this build. He gave me the 1973 Chevy heavy 1/2 ton truck used here with Mr. Bad to drive while my daily driver was down. That turned into a year or more and he just sold it to me! That was the man he was then and still is today. He was my choice to speak for me at my service when my expiration date is up. Prayers please. He was not a religious man but believed in a Higher Power. My heart hurts...please.

Prayers up for your friend. Sounds as if he's a brother.

Sad to report that my longtime good friend and mentor passed away. Larry Ward was 64 and gone too soon. Never got to see this build...

Sorry for your loss. I'm sure he would be very proud of the work you are doing.

Just got this lettering put on my street truck, a 2010 GMC Denali my son picked out! Only learned later that he wanted it-but we're good now.

Re: From monster truck to street-pride is expensive!

The project took a back seat to the 1957 Chevy NAPCO build http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=529546&page=2 and 1960 Jeep (with all GM motor and drivetrain) (pics) I had to get ready for a Jamboree-my son won the Modified Jeep class. Also hit a snag with the wiring replacement harness for the truck-my friend helping with that is working when he can. Next move for me is to do a reinstall of the gas tank and hook up lines, vent, and ground to frame.

Re: From monster truck to street-pride is expensive!

Ted-

Send me a PM sometime. I have a few questions about your truck. I have an old '77 K10 that I bought back in high school that I am building into a monster. Bearfoot 3 was the inspiration to my buying my '77 in the first place.

My build thread can be found here:

Wow amazing story, looking at it as a plow truck you would never know that it used to be a monster truck! I'm sorry for your loss!
