I need your opinions bike or truck?

Im stuck between a rock and a hard place and cant decide! I want to buya honda 750 shadow spirit total cost will run me around 9100$ now i really want to drop my truck and put a new grille in and get a new chrome bumper for the rear but I cant decide aia really want this bike and i start college in sept but i need some help on deciding what would you guys do ?

Stick with the truck, it will only go up in value where as the bike will go down. Besides you already own the truck, give her what see desires.

Is this gonna be your first bike? If it is, I'd go with a cheaper used bike, then put a bit towards college misc. expenses, and finally do something to your truck...perhaps lowering. That's just MO, though.

How much of the year can you drive the bike in Alberta ?

Besides that why the shadow spirit? Yes, its a V twin but the only real reason to build a V twin is to copy Harley Davidson because Lord knows its not the best engine design in the world. Nothing against Harleys but the honda isnt a Harley. Now no self respecting Harley Davidson owner is going to consider you his equal on that bike and chicks don't care about ricer wannabe's so whats the point? Ok, its cheap but for the same money you could get yourself a used low mileage GSXR-750 or Honda CBR 1100 and even the Harley guys have a grudging respect for those bikes since either one of those will smoke 99.99% of the hogs on the road. Plus chicks dig guys who ride bikes that say " I'm going to plaster this guy into a road sign at 160 miles an hour " ...

Owning a bike in Alberta, Canada, makes about as much sence as a screen door on a submarine. But if you want one, wait until your done with college, and have a good paying job.

I'd get your truck ready to be reliable for 4-5 years of college life.

If you have the truck finish it...then worry about a Bike.

Truck, you already own it, you care enough about it to come here and post. I dont think you went to a bike web site and put, that question on there. and besides, When the bike breaks down you wont have youe truck to haul it.

Well personally i would stick with the Truck. I ride dirt bikes but cant stand street bikes

go with your heart and if I read it right its the bike , the truck can wait, theses trucks are a long time project, summers here go ride. when I was young, theres nothin like ridin a bike, just watch for those praire june bugs, they can knock you out if you get one of those in your face at 80 mph

Just took a deposit on and 89 Harley FXR, the gal is giving it to her husband for Father's Day. I was asking $8900 for it since I bought a new 02 Wide Glide last summer.

Honestly sounds like a lot of money for that bike..............

You could easily ride a bike 5 or 6 months of the year.....what's wrong with that??

Igloos? Nope. I lived near Green Bay WI, and traveled to Ontario through Sault Ste. Marie, so I know the kind of weather y'all get.

Thats exactly what I was refering to. So in retrospect, you are paying for something that is sitting in the garage 6-7 months a year.

Thats fine when you are in a financial position to afford it. I don't think a young man that will be a poor college student for 4-5 years needs an expensive toy. There is a difference between needs and wants, and at this time in his life, he should be concentrating on fulfilling needs.

Never buy a bike like that new. As soon a you get it off the dealers floor you won't be able to get half your money back if you sell it. Jap bikes are great to buy used. If you look hard enough you can probaly find someone who bought one new and it scared them and has been sitting in their garage under a cover with no miles on it....those are the deals.

i would say work on the truck. it's yours already, and paid for. plus it is a lot cheaper. $500 tops for the parts for the truck, compared to $9100 for the bike.

I was in the same situation...right now I have the income to be able to afford a bike (I too wanted a honda shadow ) and I was all set to go out and buy one. I thought "oh man I'm gonna save all this money on gas" but then I realized insurance is about twice as much as on the truck...and then my tranny crapped out...and then I found out my rear rims were bent, so that kinda decided for me. But now that I think about it, go get a cheaper bike (used), because of what tom hand said...they depreciate too quickly and save some money for college and truck

dtlilly, that's a good point about him being in college and saving his money. BUT, with the whole sub/screen door comment, you basically said that anyone who owns a seasonal vehicle is an idiot!
A lot of guys on here probably don't drive there trucks during the winter, does that not make any sense either???

I guess you must not own a lawn mower either, since that can only be used in the summer time too.......it would be absoluetly absurd to own something that you can't use all year 'round, right?

for 9,100, you could buy a pretty nice older Harley, and wouldn't have to worry about depreciation. I would probably take care of the truck first because as mentioned above, it can be driven in the winter and in inclement weather. Fix the truck, save the money, go to school. When you get out of school, there will be a bigger hotter bike that you probably would want to trade the shadow off on anyway.

I just got a bike so I had something to drive instead of my truck. but in my situation it will save me money, actually a lot of money, in gas. But you really need to keep in mind, it's really hard to lay a girl down on a motorcycle seat!

Being a 21 year old in college, I can relate. I would personally buy a late 90's crotch-rocket and then since you have some money left over, do some stuff to the truck.

As far as getting the bike you want as opposed to spending money on the truck, it is hard for me to say being that I am not a big fan of that kind of bike. Just my opinion though.

A bike will not only be fun and save gas money, a lot of the girls like 'em! And we all know that's a big bonus at college

ya i kwo the whole deal about saving gas money and what not but really you have to drive a pile of miles to save over 10,000$ worth of gas am I not right I know people around here that bought sunfires when the gas prices were so high and they spent almost 20 grand. I appreciate all the comments so far and I called the honda centre and I got denied for the financing anyways well who would finance an 18 yr old 10,000$? and yes that is 9100$ canadian and to buy a harley for that i might get a wrecked on sitting inan corner so the truck it is but still more opinions wouldnt hurt!

Good idea. buy a used bike and the rest on the truck. I just bought a 96 CR250 for 2000 and it is a blast (if you like dirt!)
