Father/Son 1970 K10 Suburban Project

Hey all. I usually hang out over in the 60-66 section, but over Easter weekend, my dad and I drove to Oregon from Utah to pick up a CLEAN 70 Burb. He wants something we can jump in with my brother and hunt/fish out of comfortably.

The Burb started life as a 6 cylinder, 4 speed 4x4, currently it has a 350/350 combo. The seats have been swapped to mid 2000s Tahoe/Suburban front and rear. I picked up an 87 Burb to rob the fuel injection and 700r4 from, then I get suspension, axles steering and brakes for my 64.

Your Suburban looks great Lance. I'm sure we will have plenty of questions for you along the way.

I started tearing into the 87 the other day. The fuel injection is Greek to me, so it's slow going to make sure I don't break or throw away something we will need.

Not hard at all. If you just want a key made for it read this thread:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=561226

If you actually want it re-keyed (two different things) a locksmith will have to disassemble it and change the wafers in the cylinder....

I think he is picking up a lock set with ignition and glove box lock, so the rear will probably need to be re keyed to match whatever he buys.

That will only happen if the keys from his new lock set will physically fit into the tailgate lock cylinder. He may get lucky on it but he has a one in six chance... If the new keys slide into the cylinder it is not a big deal to re-key it.

We'll see how this turns out. I'm still working on getting the 87 stripped, then the motor and turns will be rebuilt and put in the 70. I'm sure the wiring is going to be a nightmare.

I didn't even think about having different blanks, maybe he'll get lucky.

Worked on the hunting truck over the 4th weekend.
Made some progress. Interior parts installed, tires, windshield, full tune up and lots to go.

Lookin' good. I flipped them over for you. Try holding your camera upside down when you take the pictures.

Re: Father/Son 1970 K10 Suburban Project

Congrats on your purchase I can tell you that vehicle is a low production. I used to own a 70 Burb 4x4 with a 250 six and 3 spd on columm..There was less than 1,000 made of that version...I surely do miss that ole burb...I had installed a 4" lift with 33's...

Re: Father/Son 1970 K10 Suburban Project

Thanks.
This one started as a six. It was converted to a 350/350 before I got it.
Now it's a 350/700R4. I love this truck. Dialing in then paint...maybe.
