Suggestions how to get rid of old sound deadening?

Got some old sound deadening in my doors I want to get out. Seems like some sort of liquid asphalt that has been applied with brush. Approximately 2mm thick.

a putty knife if its brittle or a wood chisle if its not. I resorted to using a butane torch to warm up undercoating. but inside a door is a tight fit.

Inside of the door makes it tricky.

I had some material that I was able to get off with aircraft stripper and a putty knife, but I had a lot of room to work with.

Good luck.

If it's not falling off is there any harm in leaving it there? Too much oomph with a putty knife may leave marks, or draw blood. Too much heat may warp it....

If it's still hanging on real good why not leave it on there?

Citrus-based products dissolve asphalt I believe. Give ZEP INC a call and see what they suggest, buy that.

I used to sell for them and they had some hard to beat products.

if a putty knife does not work try the torch deal. It does not ever need to get so hot you must worry about warping it.

one caveate... cheap chit putty knifes, there handle will break apart and you may get it stuck in your palm. OUCH!. if its that bad use a chisle and a torch but not that much heat. kust enough to soften it.

Take door off, lay down. plug holes in bottom with clay, fill with paint thinner. Stir until dissolved, drain, repeat.

Bottom of door is removed due to rust. Most of it still stick really good, but some of is starting to crack. Thats why I want to remove it, afraid it will let moist in and rust. I have manage to get some of it off, using a flat screwdriver and hammer, and chisel it off. I would really like to clean the door and paint before I weld it back together.

Gunk engine degreaser gel, sometimes works....Kerosene also works, depends on if it really is asphalt, try small area, let soak in to soften.
