outside temp in mirror
I have a 99 K2500 crew cab, old body style. Same as the 88-98. The rear view mirror is the auto dimming, with compass model. When I first start it and it first powers up you can see in the display the letters for outside temp. The only thing I can get to change with the power button is on/off for the auto dimming mirror and the compass. Is there a way to get it to read outside temp? Thanks
Nick

Re: outside temp in mirror
They didn't use the the ambient air temp on trucks. Suburban and tahoes used it, but not the trucks.
My 99 is the same way. My truck doesn't have the air temp sensor out front. Last edited by 95 S_Trucker; 11-09-2015 at 04:55 PM. |

Re: outside temp in mirror
Is it the same mirror? I wonder if it could be wired in and how much of the harness is missing. I know on mine there are all 7 wires going into the back of the mirror.

Re: outside temp in mirror
No, the mirrors are different. Not sure on the wiring.
The SUV mirror had a temp button. Here's what the mirror would look like: |

Re: outside temp in mirror
its not a huge deal to add it. one of the first things i do when i buy an older pickup/suv is put in a temp/comp mirror.
find one that has both functions with the pigtail and wire it in.

Re: outside temp in mirror
Simple as adding two wires that go from the mirror to behind the grille and a sensor, plus the right mirror. I am not entirely sure but the pickups may be pre-wired depending on year.
The mirror in the pic is not the correct mirror, that was later and used in the Saturn Vue, very different. This one: or this one will be what to look for:

Re: outside temp in mirror
I installed the compass temp mirror in my '96, and I used the mirror from a GMT-800 truck/SUV because they show both the temp and the direction at the same time. (Like the one 95 S-Trucker posted) You do not need one specifically from a GMT-400 truck/SUV, just get the sensor with the mirror from the same vehicle.

Re: outside temp in mirror
Is that a factory GM mirror or a Gentex replacement?

Re: outside temp in mirror
I see this tread has been going for awhile and I like the idea of upgrading my 88 with this type of rear view mirror !
So, its some what unclear but I will be heading to the bone yard to see what I can find and wire in as I really like that feature. I grew up in my Dads wrecking yard so go to them is like going home :-) I always fill my pockets with little trinkets. I never drop a screw, nut or bolt, they all go into my pocket. I have several old ammo boxes (the real metal ones) and one is marked Metric and Standard that I fill with all those items :-) I am starting a tread about bringing my 1988 back from the dead for a restore too :-) |
