I thought I had this licked, but after putting in a top fill tank with a new sending unit I'm not seeing fuel getting to the filter. Maybe a silly question. but do I need to prime the system? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Mechanical fuel pump? Where is the tank located, top fill? Did you have a side fill previously?

I would. I mean I'd make sure gas is getting to the fuel pump. Then work from there.

I put in a top fill tank. It's a mechanical pump. The filter that was put there by the previous owner was actually a ford filter supposed to be used with fuel injection. I put the new see through filter where the old filter was.

pull the line after the fuel pump to see if its getting that far?

Yup fuel system is pretty easy, check fuel before and after pump then move from there

You can take the cap off the tank, seal it with a rag, and pressurize it gently with shop air to get some fuel up to the pump. Or, just take lines off, and fill up everything to prime it.

NO filter between the tank and pump. Filter between pump and carb. Facing the right way ;-)

It may just need time to get the fuel forward. Feed the carb a little fuel from a bottle to keep it running and it should prime.

After pouring a little fuel into the line from the tank and then adding a little from the pump it started up and it's running great. I greatly appreciate all of your help!
