throttle linkage on an original Edelbrock Torker intake

Hey guys, I have been scratching my head for a while on this one. I have an original Edelbrock torker intake (the sideways diagonal mount) with a Holley 4150 style 780 on it. Currently I have the stock cable throttle linkage and kickdown. It still has the cheapy spectre universal throttle cable bracket attached to it.

It looks like I need to make a tab coming off the linkage side rearmost stud of the carb an inch - 1.5 inches, but I cant push the cable back that far. Would I be better off with a lokar cable and starting from scratch?

Ill snap a few pics once my camera charges.

Any ideas?
