Driveline dilema. slip yoke question.

How do you determine how much slip yoke you want or need.
The reason I'm asking is the PO put a 454 in my blazer with a sm465 4 speed. I just pulled that and am putting a th400 in it and the overall length is 2 inches more.
I have never measured slip yoke on a 4wd so I'm not really sure how much I need. 4wd will have a lot more movement then a 2wd.

Thanks.

Re: Driveline dilema. slip yoke question.

My thought on this ranges from what the PO did when he swapped in the 454. I had a ton of yoke hanging out of the rear and not much on the front. I know im going to have to install everything and take measurments, i just need to know how much spline do i want in the yoke when vehicle is on the tires? I know how to check yoke on a 2wd but was curious if 4wd were different.
