Hatch hinge metal gasket cover...

I have attached a pic of BobbyK hatch rebuild, thanks to him for the great tutorial pics, BTW, and I do not have this metal gasket cover like is shown in the pics. Is it because I have a double wall top and his is single wall? Finally got the latch stuff to work but had to go buy some of those devil clips, you know the ones.

Hmm, my double wall doesn't have them either. Anyone know if they are just single wall?

Re: Hatch hinge metal gasket cover...

I"ve got them on my double wall top.

Red, they go on the TOP side were the hinge enters, not on the hatch side of the hinge. In case your looking at the wrong end.

I think they were a late gm answer to try and save the hatches from cracking. I have a hatch that came off a 72 that has them on it. I have 4 other hatches that are 70-71 they do not

If that's the case, they don't work too well Had to fix that area on one side.

Its been so long since I had my top apart they may have been there. Guess I'll have to dig thru the parts bin and see if I have them.

Re: Hatch hinge metal gasket cover...

I think it had more to do with sealing up the hole around the hinge entrance into the top. I bought the hinge gaskets before I figured out I don't have to use them because my top did not have them originally. Maybe having them on there will keep dirt out of there, although it was not bad to begin with.

Re: Hatch hinge metal gasket cover...

Could be but the only one of the 4 hatches I have that came with those brackets --one of the inside metal plates that the hinge bolts to is rusted away and has to be replaced so they failed at keeping water out as well
