54 gmc rear box frame??

Hey Guys, well its finnally starting to cool off here in AZ and starting back on the project. After some measuring i noticed that my back half of the original frame is way off to one side. looks like it took a hit in the rear at some point. Im going to use a triangular 4 link and air bags in the rear anyways, so im thinking of just cutting off frame behind the cab and building new box frame myself. Anyone got any pictures of this to go off of ?????????? Thanks...

Well its been a few days and no replies about boxing the frame. Has anyone cut there frame behind the cab and done something else besides boxing a new one??? Any pictures sure would help... Thanks for looking.

Have you looked at the build threads? I think there are a couple that are doing 4 link pro stock set ups. You might look in the later truck boards too, same basic principle. In my mind you should probably decide on the 4 link setup and rear end, get the existing frame level and square so it can't move, even use some temporary bracing tack welded in. Figure the width and rear wheel locations, kickup, and length. Then start cutting and welding. 2x rectangular stock would be the logical choice for the main frame. The build threads will give you some direction on the cross bracing, triangulation, etc. Your decision on 4-link or springs, bags or coils, will determine a lot of that too. I would run both cab and back a little long for final fit. You will also need to look at how you want to connnect the two, fish plate, butt weld, notched frame, etc. Fit, tack, measure, measure and measure, trial fit the bed and fenders. Then final welding if you feel confident, or have a certified guy do it. Might want to check with DMV to see if certification is required to get a registration. Keep us posted with pics on your progress.
