rear bumper help

Hey everyone. I have a 1984 c20 and I have the old big heavy rear bumper and I was wanting to get a new chrome smoothy for the back... But I still want to have my tow-hitch for pulling my trailers. So will I need new brackets and new tow package?

Thank you for your help!

What's the current set-up? Bumper mounted ball or under the truck mounted hitch/receiver set-up?

Going to a smooth chrome 'sport' style bumper will require the under truck mounted hitch/receiver style set-up.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: rear bumper help

It has the hitch/receiver. So therefor I will have no problem with getting the smooth right?

Re: rear bumper help

Most standard aftermarket hitches mount under the frame. The receiver tube + ball mount are usually located completely under the plate opening on the bumper.

You can research a hitch set-up for a Suburban, Blazer, or C10/20/30 w/the optional 'Sport' bumper. This could possibly provide measurements that you can compare to what's currently under the truck. Once you know/compare those numbers, as long as the ball mount is under the plate, the Sport bumper should swap w/o issue.

I have a 'hidden-hitch' set-up under my CC Square-body dually. It keeps the receiver tube tighter/closer to the frame which puts the ball mount positioned directly behind the license plate. I prefer the hitch tucked & out of site when not being used. I simply flip the plate up out of the way when I need to install the ball mount to tow the trailer.

Re: rear bumper help

That shouldn't be an issue.

Re: rear bumper help

thats a factory style or even o.e.m unit on the back .

you are looking for a sport rear bumper style like blazer & suburban all used and some trucks .

there the same bumper but specific brackets for each frame style .

i got mine off a 2wd c-10 suburban and only needed inner middle brackets . the outer ones were the same . bolted right up to my c-10 pickup .

made my own hidden hitch to hide all of it up in behind the flip down plate setup .
