Exclamation New idea Billet sidemarkers LED

Ok we are thinking about making production billet side markers.

Here are the choices.

1 billet covers for 85-96 full size chevy van sidemarkers. These wouldn't be LED. (1st pic)

Next billet sidemarkers with a bowtie border of LEDs

Or billet sidemarkers solid LEDs.

Next billet with LED outline.

Note The center of the bowtie would be polished Aluminum this is just to give you a idea. The face of the side marker would be solid aluminum with holes drilled through that the LED protruded through. Same with the solid one.

next with solid LED bowtie

So how much would you pay for a pair? We need to get a feel for the market for these, to see if they will be worth production.

In my humble opinion, a big billet rectangle looks ugly on a truck. It will take away from a nice paint job. I do like the last pic with the solid Bowtie. You should do these in steel so that we can paint them to match our paint jobs. It would cut your cost and look more streamlined. This would look frenched in if it was painted instead of the billet look. Of course you could still offer them in billet to those who like billet. I would pay $40 for a pair in steel that I could paint. Post another pic with that cover painted and see how many people prefer the painted look. Good luck!

If they are made in LED than they will be much smoother looking and low profile than stock side markers. And if your fimilar with 85-96 side markers than you'll also know they are much lower profile than deluxe 72 side markers. The billet sidemarkers could be anodized or painted body color. As could strictly the covers for the van sidemarkers.

But if the smooth look is what your after, than it'll take body work and welded in smoothed bowtie cutouts with a bowtie LED board .

Price depends on the production costs. But I'd say in the 50.00 range for a pair. But it's really hard to guess.

Just want to get a idea of what people think of the idea.

Honestly, I don't care for them. One thing I don't like is when people plaster bowties (or any other insignia) all over their car/truck. The craftsmanship looks nice, but it just isn’t my style.

Thanks for all the opinions.

Maybe this is more your taste? I know you like the smooth look but if you had sidemarkers what would you prefer?

Another in the dark. These are clear Deluxe side markers with LEDs custom inserted. The center that is not illuminated is where the stock bulb inserts. It will have LEDs in it also. This is just to give you a idea.

It's possible to get two rows in each besel parrellel. That would make over 60 LEDs per sidemarker!

But three is pushing it.

Reumster,
I like the CST marker lights. How do you do this? Do you insert the leds in the assembly and sell the assembly, or do I insert the leds in my assembly? I would prefer the original colored lens to the clear though. I received my tail light units last week but haven't got a chance to install them yet. Will I need a different flasher module for my turn signals with these tail lights?

I would like the billet painted body coloring but with two horizontal slits to mimic the cst sidemarkers. This would give a flush look, the style of the cst, and not be overly cheesy.

Kinda like the firebird marker swap seen a couple of weeks ago

Yeah that sounds like a idea to Primered_69

If we sold the Deluxe sidemarkers we'd offer them clear and stock, and they will include new sidemarkers with LEDs modified into them.

Personally I prefer the CST side marker. However, not sure it is worth much more than $30/pair for the CST with LEDs. Keep us posted if you get the CSTs made in clear with LEDs I will take a pair for front and back.

I'm not sure if you tried this or not but can you put led's in the front marker lights on a 72?

I agree with Slammed67. The bowties would kill it for me. I do like the second option you posted.

I have to agree with these two. something like your original pic looks like someone was just trying to hard to jump on the "billet" bandwagon. sometimes less is more
