chevy71c10, I love the motor and the build on your 71. I kinda wish I went with a ls1 conversion now on my build but maybe in the future. I also understand what you mean by the heat. I only live a couple hours away from ya! It is so freakin hot!!! Plus I was stationed at Tyndall for 4 years. The heat and no c-ums suck there. Keep up the work looking good.

Hey RCbowtie69, Thanks for checking although I have no new progress to report. Currently working in Japan for a couple more weeks. Sure can't wait to get home and get started. Cool to hear of your Friends 1950 build, sounds like a good project. I'll check back when I get home. Thanks!

Re: 1st Project: 71 C10 SWB

Here are a couple other descriptions and pictures of the door skin replacement.

1st shows the edge of the door where I ground the skin flange to separate the skin from the flange of spot welds.

2nd shows the spot weld flange that requires removal. I used hammer/chisel and grinder to remove excess metal to expose only spot welds.

Re: 1st Project: 71 C10 SWB

This weekend I modified the carrier bearing brace to allow the exhaust to pass through without having to route below the frame. I forgot to get a pic before I started, however here are some during and finished. I cut a 4.5" hole on each side and had made some wedges to weld in to provide support back to the brace. I wire-wheeled it clean and treated it with the Eastwood frame conditioning kit.

Next up: floorpans, A-pillars, kick panel, cab corners, B-pillars & cab supports.

Thanks guys! Last few days I have been working cab repair. Removed rocker panel and cut out both rusted front cab supports and front floor area. Really nervous about trying to to get the cab support, floor, kick panel & A-pillar all to match up like before. I'll keep you posted....

Thanks,
Justin

Re: 1st Project: 71 C10 SWB

LOL!!! Only 15 rounds? I wounldn't last the first round. I can unbolt and bolt parts but coming to body work I am lost. Thats why I searched so long to find one that had little to no rust. But, I am sure you will be able to handle it. Will be watching the progress, good luck.

Thanks 71Sleeper, I'll certainly keep the pics updated. Today I received the below pics of my T-56 Keisler shifter install. Transmissions are one of the few things I know I shouldn't mess with.

Thanks RCbowtie69, The trans is a T-56 six speed. Hope to get the motor/trans installed this weekend and will start to setup the exhaust and measure for one piece driveshaft.

Thanks again,

Today I was able to get the right front floor pan, kick panel & cab support trimmed and ready to weld in. Tomorrow I will get those welded in and replace the A-pillar.

Nice work on the floor. I like the idea of leaving the tab to hold it in place. I will use that on my next one.
