Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
A show? Today?? Where????? I catch your drift, and very true. The more authentic the better, whether just built or a revived original. I was never as big on customs as I was with hot rods. I was a kid back then and went toward performance once I became a driver. I did build custom versions of certain model kits. That 3rd one, maroon Chevy, is so tasteful it ain't funny. The kind of custom people who don't know their cars wouldn't even know it was customized.
Slick '48. I want to say Chevy, but who knows what's what on these? It's a GM body anyway. In the thumbnail I thought it was a Caddy, before posting

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
Yeah, not knocking a man's effort. Especially from another era. Cars were customized "then" that most would never alter "now", plus it was a thing to do in that time. Same as the things people do now they didn't do then. A lot of customizing starts with the headlights/grille. Riviera had a distinctive and unique front end and the car was a total design challenge by nature. They were GM's answer to the second design Thunderbirds, which created the new sport luxury segment. Riviera nailed it and stole the show
We need more trucks

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
Every time I browse through this thread it makes me want to drag out my Caddy. I've tried to sell it many times but its nothing but low ballers. Course maybe they aren't low ballers maybe the price I want is just too high, but I'm already asking quite a bit less than what I have in it.
Its a long way from ever being anything. I don't have the skill set or the money to make it the way I would love to have it anyway. But If I did ... I do like customs a lot, I'm thinking more of a sinister look along these lines.

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
This is a stock version ... a little lowered. It does look good though, not sinister enough haha.

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
That Caddy would certainly make a cool sinister street rod. Boy oh boy, look at that b-e-a-utiful stock Caddy. Same thing as the '63 Rivvy. The look has been nailed. Many things about that body influence the custom work done on "lesser" cars.
I like how the Fleetline "Torpedo Back" carried through to the post-war chevy EDIT: Here is a video about a local custom truck I didn't realize 'might be' a Barris job. I've shown it in event coverage threads before. Been around a while. That show is 10-15 minutes from my house, at the county seat. Not this year. It would have been last weekend

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
I have always loved the shape and proportions of the late 40's to early 50's 2 door Olds. You just don't see many of the 2 doors. These were called Holiday Coupes weren't they?

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
As opposed to "business coupe"? You know, I'm not sure when that started. But Chevy started with Belair in that era, so I might just assume...
Yeah, they had the best grille. An obvious fact if you look around at the customs of the era. It screams cool, smooth, and low.

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
Keepin' it alive, Richard!
This mild custom '61 Bubble Top is a local car. Been around many years. He really nailed it. The white tuck 'n' roll reflecting off the glass and all! I just found this '63. An interesting 'blend'. Similar to a '61 Fairlane top, but I think it's a Fury. I'd appreciate it better with era-correct tire/wheel combo

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
Capture on the BLVD ^^^
I'm on the second or third laptop since this thread started. I've had this one about a year, starting to build a pretty good picture library. As usual, I'm not sure what I have and haven't posted from my "Customs" album. I'm showing recent saves I stuck a dash on to the right of their code and working my way down. They seem to be going together with each other pretty well. That silver Club Coupe I saved a picture of quite some time ago, but from the side from the front. That tail end treatment is something. Looks like a snail the way it's flared. Great way of keeping that rear spear while eliminating the cat eyes, then the lowdown Merc lights. This one is way up there for me. Love the silver on it
