Re: Mike's 2wd 1971 Blazer

Thanks for the compliments Rich! You have a great blazer yourself! The bed rails are made from a fiberglass type plank. Essentially it's synthetic wood, I ran it through a table saw to get the width I was wanting. I then put a 45 degree bevel on the outward facing side. I installed threaded nuts in the plank on the underside. A lot of sanding, priming and base coat followed by clear. They also have a layer of topper tape under them to protect the bed sides. They are bolted on from underneath using the factory holes. I never put the top on but they are easy to remove. I can't wait to get the ls swap completed and get it back on the road!
Thanks again,
Mike

In my daily national searches I found this one in Sacramento, CA. The owner was a great guy and honest about the truck. An auto appraisal company performed a thorough inspection and I received a thirty page booklet with color photographs of all areas on the truck. Got it home and it was just as described, completely rust free, all factory sheet metal, perfect rocker panels and boxes. The blue primer/guide coat is how I got it. Spent all of last fall, winter and spring tearing it down and restoring. It already had a 454/400TH drive train in it when I got it. Ran pretty good but freshened it up. Put on a polished intake, carb, ceramic coated headers, new exhaust, valve covers and a few other things. It is lowered with a static drop, spindles, springs, rear shock relocators and a boxed frame c-notch, custom modified trailing arm crossmember (exhaust passes through it). It now has 4 wheel disc brakes, wheels are Showwheel streeters 18x8 front 20x10 rear. It now painted Chevy victory red. Side marker lights shaved, rear roll pan installed and fuel filler relocated. The bed and floor pans were stripped and coated with POR paint and spray on bed liner before installing the interior. Tan leather interior, front seats are from a 06 impala, factory rear seat custom lowered brackets. I made the door panels and rear bed panels. Did my own french seam dash but I sent the console off to Conner Sweet (member) and it looks awesome!! Custom autosound stereo with kenwood speakers and a small amp. Still have a few minor things to do but I was able to get out to a few late summer shows and roll around with kids. Considering an LS2 and maybe air ride????? Anyway the site is great and an awesome resource! Looks like I can only add one photo at a time, so I will add more. Thanks for looking!
Good afternoon, I really dig your Blazer. I have a 71 also and I could use some help.

Re: Mike's 2wd 1971 Blazer

Thanks! It in no way compares to yours though! I have been inspired every time I've seen yours. I'm in the middle of an LS swap, hopefully I will get it back on the road soon.

Thanks again,
Mike

Re: Mike's 2wd 1971 Blazer

Thanks guys! Hey Bruce, nice to meet you (on the forum anyway)! I will have to look for you at some shows this year. Based on your Instagram weve been at the same places and probably crossed paths but didn't know it.......Love the 60-66 trucks by the way! Getting ready to start the next one (square body truck). Let me know if you run across any parts....

WASTED INCOME, looks like you taken the LS stuff to the next level! Nice builds!

Mike,
Your square looks like a good solid start. I would like to grab one myself. LS this one also?

Re: Mike's 2wd 1971 Blazer

Bruce,
Thanks, it's pretty solid overall, couldn't pass it up for $425 (and another $300) to get it shipped here. The plan is to drop in a LS 4.8 that I picked up a while back, added a mild cam. As of now I'm planning on a Scott's hot rod IFS and some other suspension mods, wheels and eventually body, paint and interior. Trying to get one of my sons interested in street rods.....
