Re: 60-66 hood and grille combos

Great thread for guidance.

We originally wanted a 60/61 truck for the hood but ended up with a 66

I think that if parts were more available in the UK/Europe, I would have gone for the hood and possibly the grille too.

Probably been seen before, but here’s a 1960 GMC, 1962-66 Chevy hood, 1955 Buick grille bar inspired directly from post #36:

lowlife4life, you need to keep the headlight buckets from a 456 c10 grille and switch them for the c50/60 headlight buckets

Re: 60-66 hood and grille combos

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!!! WOOO

Thanks for putting this together, it is so awesome to see all the different grills and hoods, I would like to do a swap of some sort but was interested in seeing all the options out there, this definitely helped... but at the same time made it much more difficult because I can only choose one... Unless... I can buy more trucks, hahaha

You I always kinda thought if Batman would pick a truck, it would have been a 60-61 because of the hood scoops.

Re: 60-66 hood and grille combos

I'm really wanting to drop a '60(?) grill with the twin dual head lamps into my 64 dually. I'm just more partial to the look of the earlier headlight setup. I'm having a really hard time finding info as to whether or not it will match up properly or if there are other years that will. I'm completely okay with using the gmc grill and doing some custom badge work on it. Thanks for any help

Re: 60-66 hood and grille combos

the top outer bolt holes will line up, you will have to drill out the other 3 holes.
I ran the 62 grille in my 65 with just the 2 bolts holding it for a while, no problems... I went ahead and drilled the new holes when I changed to the gmc grille.
a trick for the holes... I bolted it on with the 2 that fit, then I grabbed some spray paint and spray bombed around the mount, pulled the grille off, and there was the pattern for the new holes.

Re: 60-66 hood and grille combos

jonnyspringfeild if you're lookin to go to an earlier grill on your truck you'll need to source a grill support panel as well when i did mine 61 grill on a 66 i was able to find one so im not sure about the aftermarket panels and how they fit i also im not sure about the gmc support panels and if they fit the early chevy grills but im sure with a gmc grill and support panel it would bolt right in.. I'm sure I'll be corrected here but i believe that the 60-61 grills will need the same year support panel as the 62 isn't a direct bolt in as the bolt pattern is different for grill, all years have the same bolt pattern for fenders i also had to rework the bottom of grill support panel to fit over frame rails other than that no issues at all pretty simple swap

all you need to do is drill the correct holes, the dual headlight grille support panels have a little indentation for the inner headlamps that the single ones do not have... however it will still fit, the wiring /plug ends up being a little close, but there is still about a half inch of clearance....

does it look like the mesh was cut out of a c/10 64-66 grille?, if not then it is probably the COE style grille that uses the bowtie in the center , but does not have room for the upper letters, so they are stamped in like the c/10 style.....

Re: 60-66 hood and grille combos

it's a 65 that the mess has been cut out of. used for mock-up. this one is really rusty and is pretty much not savable. i have another that i'm going to cut, fill the letters and add a GMC badge to (i have a 65 GMC).
