Took 3 months to find me one. I ended up flying to Washington to buy one.

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
there are usually a few on craigslist in Wichita and Kansas City area. Usually good honest people, you just have to be specific when asking questions.

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
I found my original owner on http://northamericanautomall.com/home.html advertised for $1,500 and paid him $500. Drove it onto the trailer, going to need a lot of work though....

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
Here in south Tennessee/north Alabama, they are everywhere. There's one in every barn and field, lol. I bet I've owned 15 of 'em in the last 30 years.
I do see some on Craigslist, but you'll have to be sittin' there hitting "refresh" every couple minutes to get a deal on a good one. You have to be the first to see the ad and the first caller, or it's too late. Anything that's still on there after a day or two is usually not one you want. Just poking around on there every few days is a waste of time! I've had the best luck just knocking on doors where I see one sitting. Bought lots of original owner trucks this way.

So, where's the OP? All these great suggestions, and not a peep outta the guy. Hopefully he's busy buying one of the trucks

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
I picked mine up from a farm out in South Dakota.
Your best bet is a truck from out west, not as many rust issues it seems like.

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
I know where there's a '71 Cheyenne, swb fleetside all original, mustard yellow color.........just sitting in a barn. The old man died over 20 years back, his widow moved to Houston right after and their nephew, my former football coach, put the truck in his barn. He starts it every week, but the truck has not seen daylight in years! I have asked about the truck, he gave my his aunt's phone number and I called about it years ago and she said no before I even got the question out of my mouth. I have seen the truck, it is very nice, but dirty & dusty & original. Nobody will get it until the widow dies.
My uncle had a 1980 Chevy Scottsdale. He died in 1988, the truck is still right where he left it. My cousins don't drive or want it, BUT.......my aunt won't even consider selling it, all these years later. It'll be a good truck after she's gone. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
[QUOTE=srvivor71;6232120]WOW! What a goldmine of 67-72 Chevy tracks out there![/
When I found mine in 2001 I had been looking for 4 or 5 years. I looked at 10 or 15 before I found mine at our local downtown annual Cruise Weekend, sitting all by itself with a 3x 5 card in the window with For Sale and a phone number on it. I bought her the next day. Like has been said some folks want lots of money for junk so know what you want and what you want to pay and with some patience you will find the right truck for you. Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
Or, one will just fall into your lap from a dying man you meet a few months earlier. Not even looking to get back into the madness for a few more years and BAM a '70ShortWide and a '64ShortStep came out of the blue for free
However..... Your personal result will vary! Mine is an abnormal story, God works in strange ways, but Praise Him for the Blessings

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
Mine was sitting in a field with briars, weeds and grass growing all around it. Gotta look on the back roads too.

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
I got mine from Shingle Springs, CA which is 30 miles outside Sacramento. Saw it on a website called Autotempest which combines all the Craigslists together. Flew out there from Connecticut in the AM, drove it 50 miles, flew back that night and then had it shipped back.

Is it a SWB? Looks stock not lowered? Anymore pics? I kind of want to get an idea of what a non lowered SWB looks like. I too wish I could find something in decent shape. Thanks guys for posting your sources. |
