Original engine

I have a C20 Custom Camper and trying to figure out what I have for an engine. I do know it is a 350. I can't read the complete number on the engine block pad but can read enough to tell the block was built in 1970 in the Tonawanda plant. Is the number stamped anywhere else and is it possible they used left over blocks from previous years and it is an original engine to the truck. Thanks

The only information that is going to connect that engine block to a truck will be found on the machined pad revealed out just in front of the passenger side head mating point to the block.
If it is unreadable there is no other information that is going to connect this block to the truck model.
Now, that said..there is no such thing as 'numbers matching' on these trucks.
The only information that pad carries is the plant it was made in, when it was made and the truck model that it would typically go into.
It does not contain any numbers, that ties the motor specifically to your truck and its vin.

I was really more interested to find out what engine it is to see if it really is an original 1970 block to determine HP. Thanks

The casting number and date are on the transmission flange on the back of the block. The casting number is usually on the driver's side and the date code is often behind the distributor. You usually have to scrape gunk off to see them.

The date code will start with a letter, then 3 digits. The letter is the month (e.g. A = Jan, and so forth) The first 2 number digits will be the day, and the last number will be last number of the year (in your case, it should be 0 for 1970).

If your engine was cast May 21st 1970, for example, the date code would read "E210".
