Cab and bed removel

I'm buying a 1972 chevy 4x4 and a 1969 Gmc 2X4 both are long wheel base trucks , How much difference is there between the two is there, if i were wanting to switch cab and bed on both trucks. I am wanting the GMC to become a 4x4 and making the chevy a 2x4 ? Has this been done or can it be done. I haven't found any threads on this . The GMC has been restored and the chevy has the 4x4 drive train that i can or could use and i want to give the chevy to my son when i put it back on the 2x4 frame. If there is someone that knows of a thread i can read awesome or if you all could chime in here that would be even better. Thank you very much for your input.

Re: Cab and bed removel

does this mean that the two can't be switched without major work ?

Re: Cab and bed removel

Its a simple swap, you wont have much in the way of surprises and you can just swap out the trans humps then you do the cab swap.

Re: Cab and bed removel

They are basically the same, just with some minor differences. But nothing that makes it impossible. The 4x4 truck will have a taller hump in the cab floor that will un-bolt and give you access to the transmission/transfer case. The 4x2 will most likely have a lower hump, unless it is a Big block, or a 4-speed. You can easily cut the lower hump out of the 2wd and bolt in the one from the 4x4 truck, to make sure you have clearance for the 4wd drivetrain. Those are the 2wd/4wd differences.

As far as the 69/72 differences, the only real differences in cabs that i know of are a few different holes in the firewall because 67-70 used a floor mounted gas pedal with a rod to control the throttle. 71-72 trucks had a suspended gas pedal with a throttle cable. Also the 72 will have the rear view mirror mounted to the windshield, and the 69's will be mounted to the roof in between the sun visors.

That is whats coming to mind at the moment, i'm sure someone will chime in with something i forgot; theres plenty of guys that have been doing this longer than me and know a whole lot more than me.
