Highlander buddy buckets?

Hey guys,

I'm getting ready to hunt down a set of buddy buckets. I was originally going to cover my bench in Highlander plaid(orange/white). But I was thinking how cool would highlander buddy buckets be!!!

Has anyone ever seen a set?, I know that you couldnt get them from the factory that way, just thought someone may have fabbed a set up over the years.

So post your pics of the Highlander interior if ya got em, doesn't have to be buckets.

Re: Highlander buddy buckets?

That never happened from the factory.
Buddies are 67-68 and Highlander was 72 only.

However after seeing a stock 72 Highlander orange bench in da-burbs stash I think it would be really cool. As in 70s cool. Retro.

Re: Highlander buddy buckets?

they are extremely hard to find, and when you do get ready to pay. try Ebay maybe or keep you eye out here.

might look at these, would be cheaper

Re: Highlander buddy buckets?

You might luck out as I did and get some nice Buddys for free .A friend of mine that builds these trucks called me last year and told me to come get some parts he was getting rid of .I loaded a bunch of stuff up and asked what he was going to do with the seat down in his field .He said he was going to haul it to the scrap yard unless I took it with me. I loaded them on the truck and then got on here to confirm what they were. I cleaned them good and dyed them black and they are in my 72 now. I wish you the same luck.I told my buddy what they were worth and he just told me I did good .

once in a while you get lucky, that was a great score. i traded a bench seat to a guy helping my neighbor move several years ago. he had a 67 GMC and the driver side bucket needed lower foam badly and was happy to trade for a bench that was in good shape. another time i pulled a set out of a wrecking yard for 75 bucks and the yard guy even helped me take them out and load them in my truck.

Re: Highlander buddy buckets?

i feel that i got really lucky because the buddy buckets i picked up back in 09 only ran me $200, one tear on the center bottom cushon near the rolled seam, and the foam is in awesome shape along with the rest of the seat vinyl is in great shape. i would love to recover them in black and yellow hounds tooth, but from what i have told no one makes a hounds tooth kit for the buddy buckets, just the cst buckets

Re: Highlander buddy buckets?

highlander was the highest optiopn truck you could get in 1972 only 67-8 was cst
and maybe 69 72 was cst as well and then in 71 cheyenne super, and then in 72 the highlander

Re: Highlander buddy buckets?

It was a trim package. GM was coming out with a new truck for '73. So, after a 5-yr run it was getting long in the tooth and GM decided to bling up the basic truck and make us think we were getting something special. Since performance was gone, putting some lipstick on the pig seemed like the only way to sell anything. Dodge had come out with a new truck for '72, and GM didn't like the competition. Poor Dodge boys had been driving the same basic truck since '63, I believe. Heck, they still had a beam axle in '71, so the ride quality of the new ones was a lot better. Besides, they had an extended cab and neither GM nor Ford had one in '72. So, the Highlander package was created to draw in some new potential customers. You've seen the pic of the interior, but it also had a set of full wheel covers. Seems there was a green, as well as the blue, and an orange color combo, with the white vinyl. All the other options were available, too.

The Cheyenne super wa the top of the line truck in 1971 and 72, the highlander was a option package used in late 72 to help move the 72 custom deluxe trucks to make room for the new 73 body style. The highlander was the first "option package available in three forms, one of which was really pretty plain with just a plaid seat (option a) and the top (option c included air and tilt with the plaid seat) To say that the highlander was top is false, the custom deluxe truck was second from the bottom in pecking order in 72. Order went custom, custom deluxe, cheyenne, cheyenne super. There were however several very high option custom deluxes that happened to be highlander optioned trucks.

I had a local shop cover mine using houndstooth I bought from SMSAutoInteriors. Any shop should be able to replicate these for close to or even what a set of pre-fabs would cost.
