Pix of factory hv/dty trans cooler

Anybody have pix of the factory installed heavy duty trans cooler? or assembly pixs. Just something. Bought what the guy said was a factory trans cooler but I can't believe that the factory used rubber hoses and hose clamps. I didn't pay much and it is a plate and fin trans cooler so I can use it on something else.

Should be on 73-86 BB trucks or burb, especially 3/4 ton

I am trying to get my 78 blazer back the way it was ordered and this is the last piece i am missing.

Thanks,
Steve

On my dad's '77 they are rubber hoses and hose clamps. To dark to photograph now, but I can take some tomorrow and post up. He says it's factory as no one has done anything to his knowledge.

On my truck it also had rubber hoses and hose clamps. I believe it was factory also. Did these come on small block trucks too? Mine had a 350 with a TH400 from the factory. It's an '83 K20.

Re: Pix of factory hv/dty trans cooler

Ive never seen a factory external hd trans cooler on these trucks. My 76 big ten 454 has a external engine oil cooler mounted in front of the rad, no mention of a trans cooler. It was ordered with all camper equipment also. Here is the spid:

Both of my 6.2 diesel trucks have heavy duty trans oil cooler listed on the invoice, but they are all made into the radiator. One truck is an 82 and one is a 84.

Re: Pix of factory hv/dty trans cooler

I found the engine oil cooler by a forum member posting a craigs list ad. I called the guy and after talking for a while he said he had a factory aux trans cooler too. I bought those and a P/S cooler.

He said it came off of a truck his father bought and it was listed on the spid, plus it is listed on my 78 blazer spid.

Pix below, we all love pix!

Re: Pix of factory hv/dty trans cooler

75 gmc454, it would help me a lot to get some pix of how that engine oil cooler lines and cooler mount. I know how it mounts on the engine but how the lines run and if there are any straps or brackets etc to secure then. Then how the cooler mounts to the, I guess the core support.

No hurry, I have gone thru 3 parts trucks in the last year that had them on the spid but gone.

Thanks guys,
Steve

The VO2 Heavy Duty trans cooler is built in to the radiator, The external trans cooler pictured is aftermarket.

As promised. I almost missed it again, man it's getting dark early. Hope this helps.

This truck has been in the family since new. He did say tonight that it's possible it was dealer installed, but it's been there since Granddad picked it up at the dealer in Idaho.

That one is aftemarket........

Thanks Cline, that answers that! So, How do I get a radiator that has it in it? Is it a larger what ever in the radiator tank?

I didn't think that GM would have used hoses. My 99 has an external trans cooler, plate and fin but it has metal tubbing connecting everything

Re: Pix of factory hv/dty trans cooler

qksilver I will get any pic you want no problem. The trans cooler you have looks to have come off of maybe a 94 and up chevy truck that has the external cooler. I agree with clinebarger that the hd cooler on these trucks were built into the rad.

I know the engine cooler mounts on the drivers side in front of the a/c condenser.

Stock ones dont have hoses that are clapped on and are held in by brackets on the zip tie style mounts.

Do you have the factory radiator? Its the Harrison 4 core with the large trans cooler in it that would be hard to find.

Re: Pix of factory hv/dty trans cooler

75GMC that would be great, I am going out to the shop tomorrow, will check the radiator.

So a 4 core harrison radiator would have a heavy duty trans cooler? I have a couple out of 72 bb 3/4 trucks..........hmmmmmmmmm

Thanks for all the help. I got rid of most of my stuff, scrapping the crap a few months ago but ended up buying my 78 blazer last month because it was 2 wheel drive pretty loaded. I won't go into how many 74-86 trucks and burbs I was given and just took them to scrap. I have the spids...............and should have stripped some parts off, especially the interior stuff and engine compartment stuff. Had no idea of how hard it is to find some stuff. Body wise they were all up north trucks that I got from soldiers off of Fort Bragg going home.

Thanks again and my 78 has a factory tach can I also have a clock too with it?

Steve

67-72 radiators are different. Im betting a big block 73 & up radiator is what came in your small block truck from the factory.

Re: Pix of factory hv/dty trans cooler

Went out to the shop today, got a lot done. My 78 has a aftermarket radiator now, so I checked a 79 parts truck i bought a few weeks ago. It has the factory Harrison 4 core radiator in it. Wish I had asked questions about the trans cooler sooner. Would have saved 45 bucks...........lol

Thanks for all the help and the pix
