Transfer case help

Here's one. What type of transfer case came in a 1983 K30? I'm looking at buying a retired CDF truck with a 350,turbo 400, 14 bolt rear and a stout looking Dana 60 up front. Thanks in advance.

Re: Transfer case help

Should be a 205, but could be a 208. Is the case cast iron? In between the front output rear bearing support and the rear output, is there a little 3-bolt cover? If yes to these two questions, it is a 205.

Best bet is to take pictures of the T-case and post them.

Re: Transfer case help

Pictures would be helpful. It would be a NP205 or NP203.

Re: Transfer case help

like chevy said i should be a 205 or 203 like red said if its got a 3 bolt middle cover on the back its a 205 if not its a 203 and if its aluminium, which i doubt it is, its a 208 but more than 99% sure its a 205 or 203

Re: Transfer case help

Shouldn't be a 203 in an 80's truck. Most likely an NP205 in a 1 ton, but could be an NP208. I'm 95% sure it should be a 205.

It is a nearly 30 year old truck...it could be anything at this point.

Re: Transfer case help

I bet its a 205 since its behind a Th400. The easiest way for me to tell the 205s apart are that they have a fill plug and drain plug and the 203s only have a fill plug.

Re: Transfer case help

or you could just look at the shifter if you are debating a cast iron or aluminum transfer case.

A 205 shifter will have the rod coming thru the floor where as a 208 shifter is floor mounted
