Hello and Could I get a little advise please..

Just joined today and wanted to say hello. I'm beginning my search for a truck I've wanted for a long time, a '71/'72 Short box. Would prefer a pretty stock Cheyenne Super but open to others. The truck is going to be a pretty much summer daily driver but not a work truck.
I want something that will "rock" if I want, but docile enough for daily use.
Going to look at a '72 today. Looks to be a nice truck, Cheyenne Super, lowered, 383 Stroker, Auto. The guy did not build it and has only word of mouth info on what it is.. The last 383 I had was absolutely un-drivable for daily use. I'm afraid this one might be too.
Any suggestions on what to look for and questions to ask would be appreciated..

Sorry for the inadvertent problem when first posting..

Welcome- looking forward to pictures of the truck you're looking at. If you find a solid shortie in Michigan, you better grab it

By un drivable you mean to much radical cam? 383 is a good setup. I like them. It's like any motor. Needs to be set up right. Good luck

Re: Hello and Could I get a little advise please..

So I go look at the truck today and it looks pretty nice. Started looking closer and first thing I see is a weld on the frame one both sides, (hmmm.. long box to short box? Probably!!) Went to find the SPID as soon as it came off the lift and sure enough 127in WB. Also not a Super I don't think and did not came with Factory Bucket Seats, Ochre not red, too,
So anyway, nice Short, Cheyenne Super, CLONE!! Owner says he had no idea yet he has detailed it completely and is a Complete car guy...
As for the 383... I don't know... didn't seem to have a lot of punch but ??
Anyway what's it worth... ??? I really don't know...

We need pics. Check to see if the short from long box welds were done right. A clone fits your needs, and it should come with clone pricing as well-good luck

Re: Hello and Could I get a little advise please..

Yep, we need pictures.

As for the 383 it depends on how it was built and what parts were used. I've built mild 383's for trucks and vans that were so smooth and quiet you'd think they were 400's. On the other hand, I've built 12:1 383's that need 110 octane to run.

I always assume it's a 350 (casting numbers) if the seller claims it's a 383 without paperwork. I've had a few friends get burned buying Camaros and such with "383's" that are nothing more than a spray paint rebuild 350 with a $99 cam kit.

The long to short welds look good based on my limited expertise. Should have taken a picture. Seam was about at the back of the cab.

No pics yet cause i don't have a we host and can't seem to load right from my computer...

Re: Hello and Could I get a little advise please..

It's kind of a bummer the owner didn't disclose any of that to you
I would walk!
Almost $30k. And firm
But claiming, he didn't even know it was cut
Makes, no sense to me

Be patient
If you have that kind of budget
You should be able to find a truck that is not a clone

Re: Hello and Could I get a little advise please..

If it is in your budget and want a nice truck like it that is all ready to drive, I suggest go for it. I personally would not care about the SPID items not matching everything in the truck, such as paint color, wheel base, bucket seats, etc. If your priority is getting a near original truck, that does not look like one.

IMO that is too much for a cut frame truck. I'd keep looking.

That's my opinion at the moment as well. Told him I thought it was worth something between $20-25K and that was not well received...

I agree....beautiful truck, but for that money, you could find a equally as nice, true shortbed.

Yeah, 25K is show truck money!!!!! Keep looking, you'll see. And a "new" motor or tranny is NOT "new" without receipts !!!! No exceptions.

that is a nice looking truck. originality doesn't matter that much to me but it does effect in price.i think it is about $10 000 overpriced.

I agree.. I think I would do $20k if we can get there. Seller is beginning to realize he has more in it than he can ever expect to get back... negotiations continue..

Re: Hello and Could I get a little advise please..
