window locks

I just scored an original set of slider window locks for my truck, and was wondering if someone could post pictures of how they install please?
The person that gave them, yes, gave them to me, said they hook over the trim panel or something.
Thanks

Here are a few from my 61; Not sure how the slider itself attaches to the glass.

Re: window locks

there is a piece of glass setting tape that goes on the glass, the latch slips over the tape.
you can look at mine if you need .

Where can I get a couple pieces of the tape for the glass? I'm sure at a glass shop, but they would probably charge an arm, a leg, and a half. Would ACE Haedware have something that would work?
Thanks

Re: window locks

you only need a few inches of tape, it might not be too expensive. if i recall it was only a few bucks for the tape.
i dont know if Ace would have it, maybe try and see if one of the local auto body repair places would sell you a small bit.
i dont remember which online site i bought mine from but i do remember that the tape came in different thickness and i first got one too thick.
If i hadnt found the tape i was going to use silicone shower door goop.

i found the extra piece i have, i dont remember if its the too thick one or not, but its yours if you want to try it, or to have a sample to help find more.

Re: window locks

The tape is .062" (1/16") thick. The usual truck repro places sell it. It's cheap. Some sell all rubber, some sell rubber/cork composite. I don't know which is better.

You need pieces 1.5" wide x 3 11/16" long. Cut a 1/2" hole in the center. The picture below shows the original tape, a cardboard template, and the new tape all cut and ready to install.

You need to slide the lock/tape onto the glass edge and get it to line up perfectly with the hole in the mating window metal bracket so the latch pin snaps in & out easily. When done, trim off the squeezed-out tape.

I don't know how well it will work with the glass installed. I have only done it when the whole assembly was out of the truck.

It truly is a horrible design. It's no wonder they all fell off, and it's no wonder people did not re-install them.

Re: window locks

the directions for the tape i used said to brush gasoline around the edge after installing, this causes the rubber/cork to swell, gripping the glass better.

Thanks, Jerry. Hold on to what you have in case you need it. I'm still working on my windows right now, so I don't want to lose it when the wife or my daughter decides to straighten up and put it "where I can find it".
