need some driveshaft help

on my 67 k10, i installed a 383, auto tranny, (350) and a np205 transfercase. while installing this i had to slide my engine forward 1-1/2 -2 inches. i use to have a 2 piece driveshaft with my other motor (6cyl) and tranny (3-speed) now im going to a one piece driveshaft and i need one about 64'' ???? what would i tell the person if i was going to make one? i dont know much about this stuff. haha thanks

Ignorant on this, but it seems like if you don't trust your measurements, the best thing would be to tow/haul/push your truck to the driveshaft shop and let them decide what would be best.
Where did you get your 383?

Matt -
Look out for those "about 60 year old guys."
Wish I had your 383. Sounds like a cool truck.
Then again - you probably wish you had my shaft.
Never mind. Forget I said that.
Wherever you go, don't forget to have them balance everything and check out the u-joints too.
All the best.

The drive line shop can make you a drive line with an adjustable slider style yoke. It will have enough adjustment to cover minor measuring errors. To measure you have to have all four wheels on the ground, everything on the truck that you normally would have (fenders, bumpers etc....) Then slide the slip yoke all the way into the transmission and measure from the u-joint retainer on the yoke to the end of the u-joint retainer on the pinion yoke. Basicaly center to center of the U-joints is what you are shooting for. The drive line shop will need to know what U-joints you are using for getting the right ends or reuse your old drive line ends. That is it. I brought in both U-joints I was going to use, the yoke for the trans and my measurement and $400 with me. The other choice is to scour the wrecking yards for the right size drive line, with the right ends or to get one that is too long and have the driveline shop cut it down and balance it.
