cammel heads are performance chevy heads..they have either 1.94-1.5 valves or 2.02-1.6....if you post your casting numbers we can tell you more...most have smaller closed chamber combustion chambers for higher compresion ratios...at one time...not long ago they were the best performance heads you could buy... some of the heads are known as "fuelie heads"..they came on the fuel injected motors

So called camel hump heads came on every 327 made, so they could be high performance heads,or heads off a station wagion. Since the price of vortecs are so cheap they are really are not worth that much sorry, unless you are doing a numbers matching thing.

yes vortec heads flow great and are realitivly cheap, but you add 400.00 for heads...175.00 intake manifold...40.00 valve covers..then if your cam lift is over .460 you have to machine the heads for new springs..thats 100.00 machine shop plus the price of springs..it adds up pretty quick..a nice set of camel humps with minor bowl work..125.00 and a good multi-angle valve job flow pretty good....and its still a 327..not a hi-bread vortec...just my 2 cents worth

the camel hump heads did not come on every 327 made, they only came on the 300 horse 327's, starting in march of '64, and the 350 horse 327 (L79) starting in february '65, and those 350 horse 327 in a small nova, will still blow the doors of a 396 chevelle, my dad has a '67 that screams!!!!

Its not how much it costs, it how well you hide it from your wife!!!!

The tough part is if you are building a set of heads, you can get a load of cash in those old "fuelies"......been there! Several yrs back,I had a set of 492s done(Z28/LT1 straight plug castings). Well we all know the drill.....valves,liners,springs,surface,3 angle job......$750 later,I had a nice runnin set of heads. I only gave $200 more than that for the edelbrocks. From this point on,I will leave the old heads for the guys that need a # match resto.....69 longhorn.

I'm in the same boat...onless it is just a light resurface, I won't put any $$ into old heads either.
The Vortecs, you can save some cash at the junk yard. THe valve guided rockers and valve covers can be found in a junk yard untill later.
When doing all that work to the old heads, don't forget to figure in hardened exhaust seats. And if it has no acc holes, figure in new brackets too.
