Rear disc brake conversion 4x4 blazer 1972

Alright I know this subject has been hit on before but hopefully somebody will be helped by this thread in the future.

First, I have done searches on this page for conversions and almost all threads were not for blazers. So the first question comes up.

I talked SSBC brakes today and they have kits that will work on 73-87 trucks but they say that they will not and they do not make kits for 67-72 blazers. Confused me, so I called again and their expert told me the same thing again. "They do not make a kit for a 1972 4x4 blazer" and that the 73-87 kits will not work.

Is he wrong?

1) Will the kits for 73-87 fit 67-72? I have a 12bolt rear end 6 lug.

2) 4X4 and 2wd kits the same?

3) Who has done it? (year specific please) Best kit?

I would like to find one that has everything brakes, calipers, brake lines, master cylinder, booster, and proportioning valve. If not, I'll make do.

4) Suppliers?

I haven't done it, but I can't see why the 73-87 wouldn't work.

Yeah I think they're full of it. pretty sure all the truck/blazer 6 lug 12 bolts are the same. Maybe slightly different widths. Captainfab here makes some nice kits. Pretty simple swap really.

You can hit up hilljob26 on here. He sells templates for the brackets you can have made or make them yourself. You would use front calipers for the rear and if you wanted a parking brake I think you could use elderado calipers. Here is the link for the templates.

Well I finally found someone that could give a solid answer, Chris at Auto City Classics. 399.00 for the brake kit with new calipers, slotted rotors, and emergency brakes. I went ahead and got a new master cylinder, brake booster and proportioning valve chrome for 225.00

400 bones for rear disc conversion on a 4x4?... I'll have to call and get one myself.. sounds like a pretty solid deal.

Does that include the backing plates and new hoses? Sounds like quite a deal if so.

Yep, that's the kit. I got it in the mail yesterday, I haven't gotten to put it on yet. I will get pictures up asap of the build.

Make sure you get the proportioning valve, it come separate from either kit 30.00 for a chrome one.

upgrade to a late model axle with factory disc brakes... like a 2008 Tahoe, that should have rear discs...

:Bump: I just ordered them..but the install won't be for 2 weeks..interested how the installation went with thread starter...if no pics are available..I'll post mine when it's done.. supposedly just some shims and it's all good..I'm skeptical..but ordered em anyway.

Re: Rear disc brake conversion 4x4 blazer 1972

I got the parts in and they look good. I plan on powder coating the brackets and painting the calipers before I do the install. I just got everything stripped off the frame and I'm going to sand blast frame and axles and then paint them before I install the brakes. I will post pix as I go.

I know this thread is pretty ancient, but did anyone ever complete the install?

Re: Rear disc brake conversion 4x4 blazer 1972

get a hold of CaptainFab on here. That's whose kit I ended up using. Then ran all new brake lines and went with hydroboost instead of a vacuum booster.
