10" Wheels

Can I run 10" wheels on a 68 that's been lowered but still has a couple of inches to the fender? Will they fit if I want to go lower?

Re: 10" Wheels

Nope. 10" wheels won't clear an 11" brake drum.... Just kidding.

It depends obviously. Front? Rear? Both? How wide a tire? What rim diameter? Fleetside truck or stepside?

A 295 40 18 has way less sidewall bulge than a 295 50 15. How low is the truck? What's the offset on the rim?

Personally, I think that's way too wide a wheel for the front that one of the things that ruins the look of a lowered 67-72 is a front that doesn't tuck.

I think the 235 55 17 on a 17x8 is an ideal front setup and the 275 55 17 rear on a 17x9. I like the look of this combo with zero offset rims. But once again, this is a personal thing and YMMV.

One of the best things I did was getting away from 15" rims but I am just assuming that is the direction you want to go since almost all the larger diameter guys don't go that wide.

It's for the front. It's 6 lug, so I have very few options. I'm trying to decide between 18's or 20's. To get any offset options, I'm having to look at offroad wheels, such as Moto Metal, Ultra, and Fuel. It will be a low profile tire. The reason I said 10's is because they have more offset and lip depth option than say an 18x8. So maybe I should have asked - will a 18x10 with 4.5 - 5 in. backspacing fit in the front?

You'd need the opposite of a Big Brake kit!

Re: 10" Wheels

I'm running 18x9.5 with 285/40/18 tires on all four corners. I now have different suspension, but these photos are with a 4.5/6 drop. I had to clearance the lower control arms a bit, but otherwise, they fit pretty well.

WOW - That's exactly the look I'm after. Thanks so much for the pics. What are the specs on your wheels - backspace & offset. Those are 5 lug? Great choice, they suit the truck well!

Thanks for the info. What's the backspace? How much clearance from the bed?

Re: 10" Wheels

1968 Stepbeds truck looks killer. There are a bunch of threads with wheel size and 5 6 lug conversion and stepside etc. on this page with a lot of the same trucks. But here is mine with setup as described earlier. 235/55/17 on 17x8 4.5" bs and 275/75/17 on 17x9 5" backspace. Converted to 5 lug disc on the front in order to actually have some wheels to choose from as you have noted... Rear is the wider 71-72 rear axle because that is what was needed to make the offset and width work.

Yep, you've got a good look too. What's the drop - did the front conversion change the width any? The front wheel tucks in nice. Do you think the 5" bs would work with my stock rearend? If not, how do you feel about a spacer? Can I run a 10" wheel on the back (stepside) with a 4.5" - 5" bs

Looks good!

Which axle are you running? Stock 67/68 width?

What BS did you go with?

Thanks for compliments. Tucking the front is one of the most important things to get the right look on a 67-72 IMO. Not a fan at all of the 80's look with 295 50 15 all the way around on 10" rim.

ECE disc conversion in the front with 2 1/2" drop spindles and 2" springs. I don't know if it changed track width any, I had made my wheel/tire choice on what I had seen on other trucks plus what I had measured on my own. Mine is a leaf spring truck with a DJM flip in the rear that dropped it just a tic over 7".

On my truck with the wider axle and the zero offset wheel I have about a thumb width's clearance on the inside. I have no rubbing issues. But I don't think that would be the same with the narrower axle. You could probably run a 4.5" backspace 9" rear on stock axle. Probably? 10 Maybe in 20's.

Not sure again why you MUST run a 10" rim, but your best friend will be a tape measure and maybe finding somebody local who will let you try a mounted tire and wheel and you can extrapolate to some extent what would work.

1968Stepbed and my trucks combo should help you decide what will fit. Converting to 5 lug was a no-brainer for me as there were no 6 lug wheels that I liked and by going to 5 opened up a whole new world.

If you are on the fence, do the 5 lug conversion.
