P.S. Mirror?

After market rectangular mirror on passenger door. Can’t see squat. Maybe I mounted it incorrectly.? Are there different sizes (mirror/stem) available? Thanks

Re: P.S. Mirror?

I see Brothers sells a convex version. Possibly this would help.

Re: P.S. Mirror?

I did some reading on this a while back, from what I could find on here it seems that the reproduction mirrors all hit the arm when you try to turn them in towards the door, or down towards the road, so you never quite get an optimal spot. The original ones apparently don't have this problem, but I'm not sure what the difference is. I'm very tempted to try a convex mirror

Re: P.S. Mirror?

I found the non-convex versions didn't allow for proper viewing angle, even when placed in the factory location on the door. I solved (sort of) by using a small bubble mirror, which at least let me know if there was someone in my blind spot (that truck had a no-window shell on the bed).

I really solved the issue with my current truck - I bought one with real truck mirrors instead of those sport mirrors that look like they belong on a Nova or Camaro...

Re: P.S. Mirror?

The good news with driving these trucks vs. driving a more modern car is that you might as well be sitting in a fish tank, you can look in every direction pretty easily.. but yeah that passenger side mirror sucks.

Re: P.S. Mirror?

I replaced some ugly ford style mirrors with sport mirrors from Classic Parts, the passenger side being convex. I think they work just fine for seeing the "blind spot", I'm happy with them. Not too long ago the same subject came up and I posted a pic of them, not sure how to find the link though.

Re: P.S. Mirror?

The passenger side mirror is mounted back further (I think 1/2 inch) than the driver side, but yes the mirror will hit the arm and the field of view is narrow at best. I used the sport mirrors for a little while, but function beats looks for me. I went back to my big white "Elephant Ears" and won't go back again.

Re: P.S. Mirror?

YEP, just put them on mine and same issue, really disappointing, just for show to balance out the one on the driver side, will have to look over my right shoulder than use the mirror.

Re: P.S. Mirror?

my truck has sport mirrors.
There is a 5" round standard on the driver's side.
On the passenger side there as 5" round convex mirror off a semi truck. The mirrors don't match 100%, but You'd have to look pretty hard to notice.
The convex mirror really helps with the field of view, while keeping "the look" I wanted.

Re: P.S. Mirror?

I just installed a set too. the mirror ball that the mirror pivots on seems awful stiff, so I have not even got to the adjustment fase yet. WTF is up with this repro chit. is any of it any good?

Re: P.S. Mirror?

One other issue you're going to experience with the aftermarket Sport Mirrors, is that the Splined shaft that goes into the mount arm, will work its way loose and the mirror head falls out onto the ground (been there done that. Twice). The vendor I bought them from was great, and replaced them for no charge, but I didn't want to cost him any more money, and went back to my Elephant Ears.

Re: P.S. Mirror?

Mike16, YES, they are stiff to turn, I sprayed some nutzy lub, similar to WD40 and it helped a bit but VERY stiff, kept thinking Id break the mirror, even worried about trying to move it once installed/mounted, concerned Id break the mounting, really disappointed
