Another wheel question

I am interested in new wheels and tires for my 70 C10 SS stock - no lifts or lowering.

I like slots and am looking at American Racing VNA697983 see
https://www.summitracing.com/ga/part...7983/overview/

These are 17x9 with 6 x 5.5 bolt pattern 4.530"backspace.
I am looking at a Michelin 265/70R17 defender tires.

I figure that the 4.5 backspacing put the mounting flange in the center of the wheel. That would put the outside of the wheel 4.5 inches from the hub.

The tire should be 10.4 in wide. This would put the edge of the tire .7 in out from the rim.

Then the widest part of the tire would extend 5.2" past the hub.

I could cut a couple of 5.2" pices of wood and use a yard stick to see if they would stick out beyond the finders. Don't want to sling mud or whatever.

Does this seem reasonable or am I missing something?
I have tried searches but I keep getting into lowered trucks.

Re: Another wheel question

Yup!
You forgot that a 9 inch wide rim is actually 10 inches wide from edge to edge.
Your bs of 4.5 inches gives you 5.5 inches to the outside.

They make a tool that makes it easy to figure out exactly what fits.

You can make one yourself from a piece of angle iron and a length of readyrod too.

Re: Another wheel question

I have found zero onset rims work best on the 67-72 trucks. 4.5” backspace on an 8” Wheel, 5” on a 9. I personally think 9” is too wide for front.
