Very Early Radar Detector Accessory for our trucks

Check this vintage Radar Detector out.
Early 60's-early 70's.
These would be an option for our trucks.

It has that vintage cool factor.
Not many of this style around.

Re: Very Early Radar Detector Accessary

I love that kind of stuff. I already bought an older CB and an outside speaker (my grandson will love being able to say stuff over the mic lol) for my truck. I also have a cool dash mount compass. Now I need a gun rack and a smoky the bear cigarette snuffer for the dash.

I know I can get this stuff via Ebay fairly easily but I prefer to buy these kind of gadgets when they pop up on the board. I missed out on the Fuzz Buster haha!

Very cool! However, I bet it beeps constantly with false alarms if you actually try to use it.

It would be cool to have one of those old Escorts that were about that size. It was a big rectangle box. Those were the ones to have in the mid to late 80’s.

That's cool. I had one back in the double-nickel days (55 MPH speed limit for you younger folks) and it seemed almost anything would set it off.

Re: Very Early Radar Detector Accessary

That thing is neat. Great styling. I had one in the early '80s that was hi-tech for the time. Had sensitivity settings and gave different alert signals, visual and audible. It was a B.E.L., maybe with 'tech' on the end. I still have it. It would do the signal and sure enough, there one would be. It would do another signal and that would be any cop car, I guess their radios set it off. The filtered setting worked well and still picked up on the traps.

I always liked Bar Bouys. I used to run those in my trucks. Remember those, from boats? I got to where I didn't want to drill the holes. My Red Orange Cheyenne Super K/20 was the last cab I mounted them in. I had them mounted in the camper of the '71 Custom Camper.

Wow. I had no idea radar detectors were around in 1962. I thought they came about in the 70’s with the 55 mph speed limit. In fact, I was thinking about buying a new one a while back; but now that the speed limit is 70 to 75 on the interstate I’m not sure I really need to go any faster than that.

I didn't know they had radar in '62

Re: Very Early Radar Detector Accessary

I'd be worried about how that thing operates. Could be sending out enough micro-waves to sterilize you, or could house a small chunk of uranium Some of that early technology is unregulated and pretty scary.

Not to worry, it is only a receiver, it does not send out a signal. Now, the guy with the radar gun in his lap has something to worry about...

Re: Very Early Radar Detector Accessary

Once they came out with VASCAR any detector made before that is a false sense of security. That's when I stopped using my high-tech for the time B.E.L. (Beltronics) unit.
